I never said you couldn't use solar power, but you have to build the solar power stations first...in which case you might as well just use it to charge an electric car rather then transferring energy from the solar station, to the hydrogen facility, to a hydrogen filling station, to your vehicle. Every step means more money out of the consumers pocket.
 
It would be easier to sell hydrogen, perhaps, to financially-strapped countries without the giant power grid, and run the pure electrics for ourselves. Would that be an acceptable solution?

I personally don't think there's one way forward. There are many ways, and all of these ways will likely be implimented all at once at some point. Who knows...they may even come up with repulsorlift-type vehicles. the future's uncertian. The only constant is Change.

The easiest way is still through fossil fuels making it pretty much pointless.

Same applies to electricity, and the changeover for that would be far easier to make. Not to mention what would most likely be less waste.

I love the sound of a well tuned engine and engine noise certainly does add to the effect of driving for me, but it doesn't for my parents or Charlotte. In my house it's 50/50, in my parents house it's 0/100 and I can see the balance nationwide tipping heavilly in the "don't care" or would prefer a quiter engine categories.

Bingo.

I couldn't care less what my car runs on. The vast majority of the population won't either when petrol prices rise so high you can charge your electric car overnight for even only half the price.

Gas is cool, but it's not a good thing. Not good to rely on, not good to burn, not good to produce. Gasoline is bad.

Let's look at other bad things, sex out of marriage, drugs, sex on drugs, gambling, gambling about drugged sex with people besides your spouse.

Wow, looks like there are a lot of fun things that are bad. Sadly Gas does little to seperate itself from this group.

Will I mourn it's loss? Yes, and I'll probably be a hobbyist with his disgusting old gas burner in the garage, tinkering away with it as it makes god awful sounds, and costs me way more money than it's likely worth.
