So if we pick an overpowered car and turn the power down to match the opponents will we get even better fuel economy? For example, maybe pick a TVR Speed 6 RM and turn it down to 250HP ... It's light on power and very light on tyres so would we get even better MPG out of that?

Hig-GT... Someone may come along and correct me but as I understand it, all cars in the game get the same fuel mileage and have the same size fuel tanks. So, if I'm right, you can take any two cars to the same track, set the power in any direction you'd like, or not at all, and they'll run out of gas at the same time.

P.S. I'm not sure if the Hybrid cars fit into this equation or not.

Not all cars have the same fuel tank sizes. The 908 HDi has an 81L tank, just like the real one.

I also do not believe they have the same fuel mileage. I did a calculation and my X2010 got 111L/100km at the Tsukuba 9H. I don't think other cars will get that.

Fuel economy varies by car. Probably some formula of engine size, hp and weight.

well i know for a fact that if if i use less throttle & short shift i can get better fuel & tyre mileage (40 lap stints as a minimum) so I would have thought really taming in the engine would help?

You will save fuel somewhat, but not very much. Fuel consumption when racing mostly depends on the amount of power put on road on average vs time. So less power means less fuel used, but also higher times. You'd need less power AND less weight to obtain a noticeably lower fuel consumption per unit of time.

I'm just thinking more for those who want a close endurance race :)

What gives better economy - A powerful car that has been reigned in or a car already lacking power to start with :)

I'd expect the powerful car that has been reigned in to give better economy.

Do those diesel powered LMPs have better fuel economy than those petrol onese?

I'm not sure ... But I think the diesels have smaller tanks than the petrols ... However, if you take on 12-14 litres of fuel every tyre stop you can probably take advantage of this better economy (if there is any) and maybe avoid a full fuel stop.

Races like Grand Valley Endurance you can do without stopping for a long period of time taking on fuel.

the mpg varies as after 20 mins or so on ss7 the fuel tank in my veyron was empty though it was maxing out for half the time so i would some of the mpg are more realistic than other cars

knowing PD standard cars lose fuel at a standard rate.

premiums however may have some lee-way but I don't want to be the one testing that theory! :P

I was also wondering if I could best out a Prius and never have to pit in the enduros. :)

You may be able to achieve that on Grand Valley 200KM & maybe Laguna Seca, but I don't know how you will get on with anything longer. If you used something like comfort hard tyres you will probably last the race out on a Prius (I've done 20-odd laps drifting on a similar length track and they've lasted that long, so normal driving should get you great distance).

Fuel wise I have no idea if you would make sixty laps, it is 200KM ... It'll just have to be a case of try it and see. (I think you would need one fuel stop)

However, racing something faster and then pitting for tyres + 12-14 litres of fuel (the most amount of fuel you can take during a tyre stop without having to wait after the cars dropped down) you can have a fast race without having to have a proper fuel stop.

The Prius' batteries will drain and you'll have very little power.

That was a joke! :)
No way am I ever spending money modifying a Prius.
That's one of those cars that makes you wonder why the hell it got premium treatment. :(

Perhaps Kaz owns one?
