basically i have 2 questions...

1.) at what mileage does permanent engine damage occur?

2.) the steps to a tranny trick are:

A. set Final Drive to the rightmost (5.5 or 6.0)
B. set Top Speed to rightmost (420)
C. set Top Speed to leftmost (180)
D. set Final Drive to reach desired top speed
E. feel free to set individual gears

i don't seem to find a difference when doing B then C, as compared to skipping B and going directly to C. is there?

250+ miles to engine broken down not damage engine.

-_-

look dude, i know the difference between breaking in an engine and engine damage. what I'm asking is, "at what mileage does permanent engine damage occur?" have you tried comparing 0/0/0 cars with 10k+ mileage cars? high mileage cars have lesser maximum engine power than 0/0/0 cars because they have permanent engine damage. And permanent engine damage is a result of...well...MILEAGE. to help you understand the question...

does permanent engine damage occur at 3000 miles? 5000? 10000? what value?

Maybe 10k and above, imo. :odd:
I have some cars that are well above 20-30k km and I must say that they do require oil change more frequently then others - and I mean like after just 5-6 races with them (maybe 100km?). I mean, it seems to me like a trend, not just a question of "different cars behave differently".

Engine "damage" can be repaired by using Engine Overhaul in GT Auto.

I would think each car would be different. And the only real way to know would be to drive a car from new, keeping records on oil changes, distance and horse power. And doing this for each car in the game is bound to keep you busy....Very very busy lol. Also what's the tranny trick? Do you mean how do you tune the gear ratio's? Don't quite understand if its actually a question at all or your informing us of something?

Engine wear starts losing hp at about 7750 miles.

For Tranny I do this:

If I want a max speed of 170mph, I put max speed to around 200mph then set 6th/Top gear all the way to right (10th line) and the top speed should come down to about 170mph.
Then set 5th to 8th line
4th to 6th line
3rd to 4th line
2nd to 2nd line
1st to 0 (all the way to left)

Gives perfectly spaced gears with your desired top speed.

At some point there is permanent engine damage and not all the original HP can be restored to the car with an engine overhaul in GT Auto. According to the link supplied, it appears to occur around 15000 km.

Gives you perfectly visually spaced gears on a graph, doesn't mean it provides perfect spacing in terms of the rpm range in each gear.

The tranny trick is a way to manipulate the transmission to give closer ratios than what you get by just changing "max speed" and induvidual ratios. If you look at the diagram in the settings screen it squeezes everything together horizontally. Very useful in high powered cars like LMPs where normally 1st and 2nd gears are unusable.

After a certain amount of miles rebuilds no longer gain back lost power.

Can anybody show evidence of this? I'm not near the PS3 atm but I'd like to see the difference between a 0/0/0 car with an oil change and one from the ucd with 100k miles after a rebuild.

Hi ,

This is how I use the "tranny trick" :

1. Set your final gear to value x (this and step determine what gear values , numbers you'll get)

2. Set your top speed to desired value. (usually not the real top speed you want to reach)
(2.5 you move your top gear all the way to right. Not allways the last gear.)

3. Move the final gear again to value x which gives you the top speed you want.
(3.5 Test the top speed , does it reach the speed desired at right rpm? No -> adjust again)

4. Memorise the speed listed at top right of gead adjusting menu .

5. Set the rest of gears so that they stay in desired rpm range when you shift up.
(5.5. if the gear ranges do not work as you'd like them to , do steps 1-3 again with different starting final gear , top speed and final-final gear to reach same speed as you memorised in step 4 and do step 5 again.

The goal is to find optimal gear ranges (track specific) for all gears while still reaching the desired top speed at right rpm.

The top speed setting in step 2 determines how close the gears are to eachothers.
The top speed setting can be seen as: Close--Medium--Wide

Wide gears means that you'll get shorter first few gears and long last gears.
Close is the oppisite of what is described above. (Most of the time usefull for high powered cars.)

I'm not the best GT5 driver/racer , track/drift/drag/max speed tuner out there.
But if there is one thing I know how to tune , it's the transmission. :sly:

With Nascars the hp drops permanently after about 6000 miles. An oil change or engine rebuild does nothing but waste credits. This is on Nascars run with no tire wear / fuel consumption after the initial 200 mile break-in period. I have no idea if using tire wear makes a difference.

Yes I have 2 exact same subaru wrx's, one with 500 miles and one with 8000 miles and the higher mileage one gives 1 less hp after engine overhaul.

I think as long as you do routine oil changes you should be fine. I recieved a plymouth superbird from a classic muscle car ticket over a year ago. Thank you Jeff Gordon. These days it has over 10,000+ miles on it and the horsepower is still 802hp. I haven't needed to rebuild the engine yet. I just change the oil every 5 or so races too keep it running tip top. When your oil turns black and you neglect it for a long time that's when your engine gets permanent damage.
