That was the first time, it happened to me.
I was racing a 7 lap race on the clubman stage route 5, with a toyota prius TC (the one from gran turismo). Normally, it revs up to 5000 rpm and stays there @ full throttle.
On the 4th lap, it happened...
After the 4th turn, an 80 km/h turn, full throttle, but it only reved up to 4500 rpm.
After one more lap and loosing a bit time, the engine went out (yes it does, when you're at low speed!) but i was driving 100mph.
As i stepped on the gas again, it reved up only to 3000 rpm, after to 2500 rpm.
On the last lap, @ 140 km/h, the engine went out and i had to quit the race, because i couldn't accelerate anymore...
The fuel tank was ok, the battery power and the tires also...
Was it a bug or did PD a damn realistic job with the engine damage?
Such an engine damage happens often in real life racing...

I think that if that ever happened to anybody else before, you wouldn't be the first one to open a thread about that topic. It never happened to me but I usually just race online anymore.

I solved the ptoblem by overhauling the engine.

I can't wait to see this happening to me on GT5... Some engine failures would be awesome.

I wonder if it could be related to the Prius being a hybrid? :odd:

Maybe the Prius was abused by it's previous owner? 💡

(Seriously, I think that this is geniune engine problems implemented into the game but I have never seen this happen to a full petrol/diesel car)

Video evidence? Replay? Picture of Telemetry?

The previous owner, that would be PD :D

Kaz! What have you done...!?

Were you using a DS3 or a wheel? It might be your controller acting up.

The controller was ok, worked fine with other cars.

Sry. I'll capture it if it happens again.

Ah, but were you able to replicate the problem with the same car? It could very well be that your controller had a slight problem with the responsiveness of the gas button.

At least the Prius got what it deserved for being a very ugly car.

was the oil pressure light on ? , i experienced a lap on the ring where i was losing power bigtime because i started with low oil pressure...

I call shenanigans, You made a thread but didn't think to get some proof, I call your bluff :).

Hey Farva, what's the name of that restaurant you like with all the goofy **** on the wall and the mozzarella sticks?

You mean Shenanigans?

I've never seen engine damage occur in race (much less on a hybrid that can only rev to 5k.) so I'm going to say that some other malfunction occurred.

Touché sir 👍

I have to agree about some kind of malfunction, However that said maybe you had damage on and couldn't drive perhaps 💡 ?

Man, thats some wierd things, i wish that happen to any car engine failure.

It shows how imperfect "green" technology is and that it's still not ready for mass market!

I know the game enough to know that the only way your engine is going to act up is that if you run out of fuel or battery (in the case of electrics) but in that case your car wouldn't accelerate more than 80 km/h - 55 mph. Plus you say that you had a full tank and battery.

When the damage is on and you crash so much that the engine icon glows red, you'll see that your speed and acceleration will drop considerably. This is another scenario.

The way I see it, the only things that could've happen is either:

1. The game acting up (Not likely. We know how GT5 acts up when it does, and this is not an example of it.)

2. DS3 or Wheel acting up. (probably not, but who knows)

3. You had heavy damage on. (this is most likely the case)

Pressure? I know that some cars have a working oil pressure gauge, but there are no failures due to low oil pressure in the game. When your oil has gone through its useful life, you'll get the "oil change" light and you'll loose power, but not considerably that you'll notice a huge difference during a race. Maybe you'll notice a decrease in 2 or 3 mph - km/h in your maximum speed, but that's about it.
