Hello everyone,

While playing GT3 in two-player mode recently, I noticed that the speed advantage I gain from using manual transmission was largely lost because I was having difficulty trying to distinguish my own engine sound over that of my opponents...

I wondered if there should be the option to be able to only listen to your own car noise in a multi-player (online) game, or even have separate sound channels (i.e. for L and R speakers) for your normal two-player races...? It's debatable whether this would make the game more realistic, but for me atleast, it would allow me to race against opponents as well as I can against the clock...

Also, the problem is lessened when using the in-car view, since the engine sound from your car is much more prominent. Maybe it would be possible to toggle the different engine sounds in any one particular view (since I exclusively use the chase camera)?... Of course, I'm aware that the display in the bottom-right corner of the screen is meant to overcome this problem, but I'm sure you'll agree that in a tight race, you can't be looking at that display too often! Anyone who has tried to play GT3 in the middle of the night (i.e. with the sound off) but in manual transmission can testify to how much slower you arre without the sound! :)

Anyway, have a good one...
Cheers,
TM

Isn't that defeating the purpose of GT being a simulator? Adapting to situations during the race. In this case, trying to listen to the engine to know when to shift with five other cars around you. But, I still think that being able to turn off the AI's sound as an option would be a good idea. Some cars just sound annoying.

I know what you're talking about. My friend came over, and I took out my gt-one at Grand Valley, and he had a f094/s. I did manny, he did auto. It was really tough because the sound of his f094 was just as loud as my gt-one car, just because we were both in split screen. I now see how this would become a problem, but we won't be seeing any split in gtonline. It will be just like normal race, except humans, not that Artificial Un-intelligence. But for 2-player, I think it is a great idea.

TriplePlay is right, in GT4 Online there wont be any split screen thus meaning that the engine sounds of other cars wont bother us. Unless you can have some split screen online?!?

And if you dont have any problems while racing by yourself, I figure you'll be fine..

Not really, when your in a car (mostly race cars) and you're going over 100mph your engine gets louder and most of the sound goes to your cabin (IMO).

Why doesn't someone buy PD a copy of GTR or rallisport 2, with a message enclosed saying "THIS is how a car sounds, recording your mums hair dryer and pretending it's a car doesn't count in 2004". Sorry just a little after playing GTP then playing some rsc2 :)

I'm quite sure Gt4 will have split screen online. I think the only solution with the sound mixing problem is to watch the rev counter while racing :(

Wow...Where did you get you hands on the final version of GT4?

Note that I said GTp :P

But it's almost (I say almost because I would LOVE to proved wrong, and have a gt4 with Roaring realistic engines) inevitable that GT4 will have poo sound effects like the ones before :( :( sob sob

ummm.. I was saying that we dont know if the final version of GT4 will have the cars sounding like our moms hair dryers...

Your posts dont make any sense........?

I must be going blind/insane...and I meant posts ...

You could always iLink it and have the sounds for each car coming from a different screen; that should save some of the confusion.

...Why would there be online split screen?

I wouldn't mind having online split screen. It lets some friends come over and play with you online on one Playstation. If Xbox live play PGR2 is any indication, it's pretty popular to do so - every other room has at least 1 split screen pair racing.

Split screen is really tough regardless, though :yuck: I'll let my friends bring over their own darn PS2 ;)

Edit: Think about if you have a racing team, as well - much more fun to have both people in the same room for racing online.

Maybe on a two player race??? Even then it just wouldn't make any sense whatsoever...

Does anyone else have the problem of Player 2's engine sound being much louder than Player 1's in a split-screen race in GT3? As aforementioned, its especially annoying when driving with a MT because of the stupid digital-style tach (How hard can it be to design a small tach to fit in the corner of one-half of a screen?)

Same here, Never did understand why they made that stupid RPM meter...Got to wait the red line lights up..

I also had that problem with P2s sound being louder then P1..

So, why don't you guys just swap ports, put the auto dude on P1 and the manual on P2...

...Why would there be online split screen?

..I hope that there will be a function, like that in PGR2, for split-screen online games, such that two (or more) people can partake in an online race from the same console. I think the 4-way split screen on XBox PGR2 makes life difficult for a serious race anyway, but a 2-way split would be fine... presuming that the sound issue could be addressed...
