GT5 is awesome. Lets get that straight first. However, i really loved gt4's engine swap feature. I was almost certain they would have this in GT5. It really does suck that its not in this edition!

Just wondering how everyone else would feel about adding this in a patch? Obviously only certain cars would be allowed to do it. For instance putting a k20 engine from a type R into a smaller civic or mini would be awesome and is a common track modification.


Thoughts? or am i being petty :)

Please tell me how you did an engine swap in GT4 ?

there was a increase displacement feature for several models but no engine swap in my GT4 game.
 
Kaz has stated there will not be engine swaps in GT5. He said something about it being unfair. People would use ridiculous setups to win and create an unfair advantage for other racers.

Why can't they just make these engine swaps ridiculously expensive? They could've made it rare for example: GTAUTO will offer one service for you at a price after a 100 races? I don't know. It also has to be limited aswell, engine size, compatability with the drivetrain should be factors on whether the engine can be swapped. Also, swaps only of the same manufacturer. Some negatives would be increased weight of the car and reliability issues. I really want engine swaps, and I'm trying to think of a way they can do this without making it 'unfair'.

You are correct.......only because PD is not smart enough to have any sort of classing system, like the performance points in Prologue!👎

And no GT has ever had motor swaps.:indiff:
 
reasonable engine swaps would be nice, but you know you would have morons with an FGT engine in a Mini.

Forgive me but i don't understand how it would make it unfair. It wouldn't be unfair if for instance there was a Japanese modders league race whereby horse power was set to say 250hp. You could either choose to boost your standard civic or perhaps drop a larger engine into an older civic and keep it NA.

Perhaps a really cool feature would be that to get engine swaps you had to unlock it by racing for the company that would offer it. Hence adding a cool feature and getting more races to complete! :D

Perhaps i am asking to much, jeez, if i could i would love to see a rolling road feature where you could actually go into the ECU and change fueling rates, air flow ect. But that's just me :D

ah yes but im not taking about impossible engine swaps like that would be. :confused:

that engine would suck that mini and spit it back out again. Or it would actually do a back flip on launch! :D

In that sense then it could be fair as long as there are restrictions. I would love to see engine swaps though. Throw an LS9 into an old Datsun(if they had one) FTW!!
 
I think the fact that certain engine swaps are really popular in real life, there should be a tuning feature where something similiar could be done in GT5. The popular engine swaps I can think of are:

Sierra Cosworth engine into an Escort (Although we would need an Escort in GT5 - hint hint eh Kaz - Mk1 RS Turbo custom please 👍)
Golf / Audi 1.8T into Mk2 Golf / Mk2 Golf Rallye (Although we would need a Mk2 Golf Rallye - hint hint eh Kaz 👍)
BMW 3.5 inline 6 into an old skool E30 M3 (again.......you get the picture)

These are the conversions I see regularly in the general tuning or specialist magazines for these sort of cars. If so many people are doing this in the modifying sceen, something similiar to this should be available in GT5, but obviously the cars need to be in GT5 in the first place.

I know there are many crazy cars out there with crazy swaps, even twin engine cars like Dubsports twin engined Golf Rallye with two R32 engines in it. There are alot of more regular and common swaps within the tuning scene though and I feel it'd have a fairer reflection on the modern day tuning scene if viable real life swaps could be included.
 
Yeah i agree. I especially think they should implement such an update if they were to add drag racing (which by the way would be an amazing addition) as drag is really the home of engine swaps. You forget the most common engine swaps are in Hondas. Im also pretty annoyed you cant supercharge many cars which you can supercharage in real life. They need to change that to. :( rant rant rant, i love you really gt5!! 👍

No GT had engine swaps. However many people made their own in GT3 with gameshark or whatever that cheat/hack thing is called.
 
Just imagine an NSX-R Engined S2000 :D that would make me giddy like a little girl lol
 
yeah engine swaps are a must if kaz and the boys want to stay on top for gt6
