So engines break in after a couple hundred miles to a maximum power, plateau and then subsequently degrade. It would be interesting to see how over time the hp changes. I am thinking of buying a new car and every 100 miles collecting a data point, with an oil change of course so that is held fixed. Then after it seems to be bottomed out (or a clear pattern emerges) rebuild the engine and test see how it compares to the original. I know it is a smallish data point to collect, but could be interesting. Especially for long races where you could get to a certain mileage before the race to maximize performance.

I am not sure which car I will do this with, but would anyone else have interest in doing it with me from another car to see if it is the same or different? I think a minimum of 5 cars would be a good sample to see how it varies from brand or country.

Break in takes 300 km, and hp stays there until at least 5,000 km.

With the oil and engine degraded completely, you'll be at 9/10s of the car's original power.

well then no need to study haha.

I remember there was a thread about that topic a few month ago. It was telling all the aspects of power-change due to break-in, usage, engine-restore, and fresh oil. I'm just too lazy to search for it now. Your studies already have been carried out ;)
