Well, since Famine was magnanimous enough to acknowledge Scotland's great win over Norway last week, I think I should acknowledge England's winning of the Ashes this evening... great achievement and a well deserved one at that... 👍

For those of you who don't know, 'The Ashes' is a bi-annual series of cricket matches (Tests) played between England and Australia, and Australia are the number one team in the world. It's the first time in 9 attempts (18 years) that England have won the Ashes... over the five tests, England won 2, drew 2 and lost 1... although it was a very tight and interesting series, England never really looked like losing...

By the way, cricket (again, for those of you who don't know) is a strange game played mostly by England and former British colonies like Australia, Pakistan, India, Sri Lanka etc., and Scotland are really bad at it :indiff: . Infact, Scottish people have been known to have strange reactions to cricket, such as is shown in this photograph of me (energetically) fielding while my mate Pete is batting...

... for the record, that bulge in my trousers is my wallet ;) (who says they don't pay scientists enough these days...) Shortly before this picture was taken, Pete hit the ball well and I had to run and get it. I threw the ball back to the bowler, and as I made my way back to my 'post' the bowler bowled again, and Pete hit the ball hard along the ground straight at my beer, knocking it over... :grumpy:

Anyway, I digress... well done England... :)

P.S. It must be big, the BBC have even changed the logo of their home page!

whooooooooo we won but need to pick matt prior instead of jones

HAHA!! Touring mars, your post is well funny !!!

You look extremely energetic and full of running !!

I notice the people on the other side of the pond aren't too interested in the cricket, but well done to us !!!

The only time I've ever been full of running was after a bad curry.... :)

Hey, TM, were you at silly mid wicket? or were you a short square leg?

Sorry for going off topic but that pic and your post are just hilarious!

And BigJamesGTI, haven't seen around here for ages! What happened? Anyways welcome back! 👍

I'll try to get on topic a bit... Sounds like a great thing for England 👍 (Not that the rest of the world cares about some whacky sports which has strange effects on Scottish people... j/k :D)

Silly Mid On I think? ;)

I need to learn more positions (atleast that's what my gf keeps telling me)

Thanks for the warm welcome back, HALO 2 and X-Box live happened!!

True though that certain countries like cricket and countries that don't, just don't and won't !

Oh yay.

Sorry for sounding apathetic, but I am.

As a cricketing fan, well done to the English. As an Aussie, WE'LL GET IT BACK (don't know when, but we will get it back, hopefully in 2006-07).

And it looks as though the Black Caps (worst name for a cricket team ever) are doing fairly well so this years cricket might be a bit of a cracker!

Anybody else think that Aussies tend to hold on to their sportsman for too long? Like in Cricket and their Rugby team?

Great to have the Ashes once again, after 18 years!

I thought it was awesome when the Aussies came out wearing sunglasses though! Really funny

Fair plays to Warne though. He's a bloody good bowler. 👍

Good win, deserved methinks!:D

Also Sussex have been Promoted from their cricket league as well! :D

That position is Mid-On. Nothing Silly about it. In fact, it looks like it could be Deep.

Scotland are classified as a Minor County.

It's good to see England, led by a fine batting performance from South African Kevin Pietersen and a not-flapping keeper's game by Welshman Geraint Jones, headed by Zimbabwean coach Duncan Fletcher finally get one over on Australia.

i agrea (i dont know how to spell that word<<) with gt_fan2005 it great that sussex have been promoted. als o do you think it will be another 18 years until england win it again??
