Suggestion:
People have to pass a test on basic grammar before their membership is accepted.

That's not a very accurate IQ test, in my opinion. I only scored a low 90 on it, and yet I'm in the running for valedictorian of my class...

That is a great idea...I would love to implement something like that. However, with the current volume of new users each day, the task of approving each account would be daunting, frustrating, and time consuming.

Good idea. Can we have a test for current members. I know of one member in this thread who would flunk miserably.

Which would be good.

113 1st test, 162 second test. :odd: Uh..its not right. So..yeah. It'd be a good idea, though..Just doesnt work.

I think we should just test: Man_I_Can_Drift, AKA: Man_I_Can't_Spell...........You know what, nevermind, It's at least entertaining.;)

You know - if we did this we'd get a huge amount of press for any of those news stories about the decline of the English language: "...one Internet forum has even gone so far as to require a grammar test before prospective members can join."

Which is why we know your IQ is 275, Hanker.

Failed. You're out... :D

It's a fun idea, but practically unworkable (especially with all this American so-called grammar :D).

Maybe add a section in the user sign-up that says, in bold, "I promise that, if English is my first language, I will attempt good English grammar, spelling and punctuation, and understand that I may be banned if I fail to do so."

I mean, it's not like most people read it - and it IS already covered by an agreement to adhere to forum rules (which contain a "good English" clause). But it's a reasonably workable start...

Yeah, now that I think about it, the grammar test wouldn't exactly be fair. I mean, there are people from all over who use these boards; to subject them to an American Grammar Test would be unfair (there are so many differences). I mean, people from Britain spell things different then people from America, and some people are just learning the English language, so testing them on grammar isn't right. And who really uses schoolbook grammar here, anyway? I mean, if I were to write my papers for English class the way I write my thoughts here, I'd fail them all miserably. Oh well, there has to be some way to regulate all the horrible grammar problems on the site, I just have no clue what it is...

You passed an IQ test? Nicely done.

I agree. Good effort. Must be hard to PASS an IQ test.

The original question by SublimeDood10 was for a grammer test, not an IQ test.

Spot on.

Besides, what is to stop a person from going down the figurative spelling tubes after passing the test with flying colours?

EDIT: I like the idea of making good spelling and grammar part of AUP. Bad speling or dR1t3rZz1 l13E and youz get chukt out. Good one Famine.
