The R4A is probably my favourite ERA. Built in 1935 as the first customer car by English Racing Automobiles, it features an 1100cc supercharged inline 6, with a bore of 57.5mm and a stroke of 69.8mm, and aluminium heads with double pushrod operated inclined OHVs per cylinder. It produces 150bhp at 6,500 rpm.
Being an A type chassis, it features a channel section frame construction, with semi-elliptic leaf suspension and Hartford friction shock absorbers. Like all chassis, it makes use of a Wilson four-speed pre-selector gearbox, joined to a bevel drive rear axle through a prop-shaft, which is enclosed inside a torque tube. The overall weight is approximately 914kg.
