Can someone give me a little back ground on where and why they were developed.

I seem to remember someone telling something about Class B rally something or other :)

What were the regulations of that class etc.. was it unlimited ?
Also seem to recall that the class was stopped cos it just got to powerful and to silly and dangerous - any truth in anything i've written above ??

Plus what else was in the same class as the 'scudo?
All i've ever seen is the two suzuki's [the one in GT3 and the other purple one in GT2 (the name escapes me)]

Can any one shed any light on this obvious void in my education?

I don't know the specifics, but I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that the Escudo was developed to compete in the international Pikes Peak rally race.

That's all i know...

What I'd like to know is what is the Escudo based on? What is that little car under all of that body work?
 
The escudo is called the escudo in japan and it is called the Grand vitara over here.

It's just your common garden 4x4 nothing special, well untill some crazy people decided to make one that would do the pikes peak hillclimb.

I think you are assuming the Escudo is a WRC car, because it isn't.

Although think you are talking about the WRC during the 1980's when the Audi quattro, Ford RS200 and the lancia S4 (Not too sure id it's s4) were around. There were several deaths of spectators and drivers so the power was limited.

That's kinda off the cuff though so i'm not exactly too sure about the exact details.

The only real resemblance is the slantyness of the headlights and maybe if you removed the huge rear wing. You might see the body shape a little more.

and i never even knew its much much bigger brother was the Pikes Peak monster.
