It's that time of year again where we take our annual sabbatical up to the motherland.

European Finals

We'll be there for the race finals on Sunday. Any other GTPers going? First timers? (No giggling, please)

If you've never been, it is a fantastic experience. Fastest sport on earth. Makes F1 cars look like 2CVs! The Pod is in Northamptonshire btw.
 
Because of the wonderful British weather, we didn't go. Though apparently they got a decent day in on Sunday. No action on previous 3 days. Sverre Dahl set a new European speed record in Top Fuel bike. 230.07 backs up the 231.11 in qualifying. Andy Carter did one half of the Top Fuel Dragster speed record for Europe. 317mph, I don't think he backed that up.

Because of the awful weekend, and the season as a whole, thanks to rain, the National Finals on the last weekend of the month will have some top fuellers, including a night race. Cheap too. About £17 for adults. Plan is to go to that.
 
As some of you know I'm a huge drag racing fan. I little bit far away to go there for me unfortunately.

And according to your avatar Sureshot you probably know that there are many swedes that are good in the sport. ;)

Doesn't matter about it being a few weeks old.

Yes, you Scandinavians do seem quite dominant. Though Carter won Top Fuel and Ian King won Top Fuel. Everything else was a Scandinavian win. Do you ever go to Mantorp Park?

Yes I've been there once, awesome. But we have a local strip in Sundsvall as well. Maybe you know Leif Helander (drives a top fuel funnycar). He's from about where I live.

What I really would like to do is to go to America and watch the US Nationals in Indianapolis! 👍
 
Yes, heard of Leif. Seen him at the Pod plenty of times. Watching NHRA is an ambition of mine, too.

Bugger all else for anyone else though. Pro Mod didn't get any runs in at all.

Still, we'll be there at the end of the month, with Bad Habit :D

Whats the shed like now? Last time when I went they said they were going to perform some work on it during the winter months. I hope I can go again for the 2008 Flame and Thunder event. It was worth it last year.

Health & Safety reasons. People were stupid enough to stand there when the jet car was firing up, I believe was the main reason for the change.

Does Tigs do those wheelies on purpose? He did it every single time, got to the semi-finals, didn't he?

Also nice to see the day end with two 300mph+ runs. Very good fun, I'm just about to upload my photos, seeing as the latest build download for FM09 testing has just dumped it's bottom on me.... I'll get some photos up soon, and some videos too, must remember ear defenders next time so I can do Top Fuel videos!

He did, and he did. At Shakey they were pulling wheelies clean through the 60ft mark :lol:
 
Haven't been to The Pod for while. Hopefuly get up there for Flame and Thunder.

No more Shed :(:(:mad::banghead::( . No more Tarmac in your hair and stinking of jet fuel.

Are they still firing the TF's and the floppers up in the pits or have the H+S crew put the kybosh on that too?
 
Nope, you can still get a good dose of nitromethanol to top up your Podface while walking through the pits.
 
I doubt they could stop that, it's important to warm up the engines if running on nitro iirc. Green clouds of Nitro = saweet!

This is good news. Can't beat the stinging tearfilled eyes and the burning in your throat. And of course the noise Oh the glorious noise those beasts make.
