Hello again, GTPlanet.
There are more European exotics are told to be in GT4. And if they don't make it to GT4, then they will probably be in GT5. So I'm kind of wondering... what cars constitute as "European Exotics?"
You see, Gran Turismo 4 will be more than just another GT game. The series will look into the past of the history of the automobile. And if you ask me, it will be VERY entertaining to maybe look into a Ford Model T from WAY back (only people born around then were probably our great grandparents). But as I said, the topic is about EUROPEAN exotics, so the Model T doesn't count for a topic like this. It would be very interesting to take a look at cars from the past. I really like to thank Alain de Cadenet for his daredevil style with old European cars. The "Victory by Design" series features Ferrari, Porsche, Jaguar, Maserati, Aston Martin, and Alfa Romeo. I've seen the Speed Channel shows on them, and I can tell you, the European exotics, especially from the past, would be a joy to race. It would probably be even more interesting if you can have a "Goodwood Festival of Speed" style race series. Imagine a sort of hillclimb like with the point-to-point race, then the circuit race where cars of a certain era and type race at Goodwood and compete old-style. Then I can remember in 2003, I heard of the "Tour de France Auto." I think it was basically a classic car race around France. It's like the targa rallies, but you also race on circuits. So I don't know what would qualify as "European exotics." But for as much as I know, there were pretty few old cars from GT2 from Europe. One of the most beautiful of those in GT2 was the Aston Martin DB4. If you ask me, I was hoping for the 1955 Mercedes SL500 Gullwings, maybe some more MGs, the beautiful Jaguars of the 1960s and younger... I mean, I was a little disappointed to be honest. Some classic Alfa Romeos would also be good. Ferrari, Porsche, and Maserati licenses haven't been locked in yet, but to put them into the game including old classics, that's a 1-2 punch to a great game. For those who may have played that XBOX-only Mercedes-Benz game, you may know about old Mercedes cars. That Ginetta was made official some time ago for GT4. But after watching a Ginetta race car from the Monterrey Historics race last year, I seen a much-better looking Ginetta. This Ginetta, I think it's the G12, won the race. But if a lot of European exotics don't make it into GT4, here is something I'd suggest to Polyphony Digital for the next Gran Turismo (considering the game ships before the 2004 rendition of the Monterrey Historics), go out to the Monterrey Historics race and check out some of the old cars there. You want to trace back to the early days of the automobile, you need not look any further than some of the cars that raced at the track.
I'm watching Autorotica's coverage of Barrett-Jackson's highlights of a European Eotic known as the Allard J2 Cadillac. This was a car entered into the 1951 24 Hours of Le Mans. Beautiful green color, and it would make a very nice club racer. You could even go to the vinatage races with them. And in fact, you CAN vintage race because it has this little piece attached to the roll bar that makes it legal for US vintage racing. So, I'm not coming up with a European exotic wish list, but what would qualify as European exotics for GT4 and for GT5 years later?
