I am 20th East Coast (So far...:scared:) and I need some help.

I am tired, just recovered from food poisoning and have only played 3 hours, so I know I can be considerably faster. Rome I have down. My special line puts me in the lead for 3/4 the lap (top tip set up as wide as possible even it does not seem logical). Once I get the last quarter down I should have a top 5 time.

BUT Tskuba and that bastard child of a track Cape Ring are KILLING ME! Tskuba I am good until the airpin and then on the exit I loose the #1. So I think I can top ten that. But Cape Ring is my doom. If I fail at this competition it will because of the that track.

I am actually ahead on the uphill left, s's, and entering the mini uphill s. Then slowly I loose my ground right around the large banking right into the very fast 5th gear s's. Once I pass the tight semi hairpin near the second stadium complex I am at least a second down. Then when I get to the end I am just about 4-5 seconds back. I cannot even see the ghost. Am I the only finding this track and car combo very hard? It seems like there is no warning that I am loosing traction only that the ghost is rocketing away.

Obviously the key is getting a good exit. If you look at the top 2 guys they all brake relatively late, go slow, position, then rocket out.

I feel like if they had chosen the nurburgring I could have done better, even though it is "technically" a harder track. I just know it very well. Cape Ring is completely new to me and I never really raced it in A-spec.

So any top tips from the top dogs outs there?

For the Cape, my only advice is to tell myself to brake later and longer into the corner. Trailbrake to the apex so you can get fully on it coming out.

Yeah I saw the top ghost trail braking a lot which is something I need to adapt to my style more. Any tips for the higher speed section of Cape Ring? That is what is killing me.

If your talking the fast right hander after the banked right I just slightly tap the brake turn right then floor it in 5th and hold on. I go into the 4 apex right hander in 3rd and just play with the throttle to ensure a fast exit through that chicane before the hairpin.

The best tip here is trail braking. You will have to be pretty good at it in order to allow the car to rotate through the center of the corner.

I'm not too high on the list yet for Cape Ring (only 30th or so), and I've been having the same problem:
On Cape Ring I'm ahead until the uphill section, then I slowly lose ground until the end of the inside section, and I stay at around 4-5 seconds behind until the end of the lap.

For the high speed section in the inside I noticed that you generally have to hold the throttle down much longer than you think is possible. Those S's before the 2nd gear hairpin are actually much faster corners than they look. I've still not gotten it down, but I've kept my pace with the 1st place ghost pretty well by going into the corners 1 gear higher than I thought I should have (I still lose distance but it's only 0.1" instead of 0.3" or 0.5").

Ghost Replays can be downloaded from the top 10 drivers. Go into the leaderboard while at the track, select the driver you want to get the ghost from with the (X) button on your wheel, choose the "Ghost" button and allow for the download to finish.

The ghost will also overwrite your fastest lap time for the session so you won't be able to see how you're improving against your previous best while you're on the track, instead all split times will be relative to the ghost.

I feel like I hit my wall today before GT5 pushed my old analog TV over the edge and a couple of screen freak outs and poof, no more TV, so after I get back from the electronics store tomorrow w/ my new flat screen bad boy, my wall will get pummeled

Tsukuba was the most frustrating, Rome looks simple but without traction it will be an exercise in line control, and Cape Ring is a true pleasure.

Not a bad day overall. Currently hold 178ish place for west division. Considering never really compete like this, I'll chalk it up as a good day. Tons of room for improvement. Learning to slightly tap the e brake at some points (right?). I'd rather keep working on Rome and cape ring since it's an overall time and tsku I'm like two seconds back.

I saw some our names up there. Keep up the good work! And the replays are a doozy to learn from.

I'm 56th overall East Coast.

Took a few swings at Tsukuba and Cape Ring, but concentrated on Rome.

Managed 6th there, at least for the time being.

Likewise I will work on Tsukuba tonight. I know there's more there, and at the Cape.
Tsukuba is just tedious and mind numbing to get those tenths.

I have been reading several threads throughout this particular forum so far and not many people have mentioned the following which have a HUGE impact on your performance especially when you are near the top with other highly skilled players the impact of the following has a much larger impact on your outcome than the less skilled players.

I feel that the following should be considered by anyone looking to win this thing or even be in the top and competitive as the series of competitions continues. This may seem a bit excessive for such matters to some but if you are truly looking to be in the running for this thing you have to think like an athlete or even...... A race driver..

Sleep - Get enough PROPER sleep and do not race when you're tired. Only race when you are awake and alert otherwise you are wasting your time.

Pace your self properly - DO NOT race longer than you feel you can commit your full concentration to 110%. This is not an endurance race and you putting up a four hour session will not win you anything. Break your sessions up with various activities that will take you away from GT5 such as exercise (this is number one, it will do wonders for just about anything you do as it improves your body and your mind). Do something you really enjoy to do outside of GT and then get back to GT5 when you are fresh again.

Nutrition - I cannot stress how much of an impact this makes on your life as a whole. If you can only adhere to one thing here I fully recommend sticking to a proper diet. A proper diet will do wonders for your body and mind function and it will make you better in every area of your life including this time trial competition. Stay away from fast food, eat a balanced diet of carbohydrates/fiber/fats/proteins and hydrate well. Since the use of caffeinated products is so prolific in the gaming community I feel it fit to mention the very limited use of them. Caffeinated products really only give you minimal edge for a small window of time mentally and it actually makes your decisions, temper, and attention span worse. The pros and cons of caffeine in my opinion are just not worth it and I feel it makes me worse at what I do not to mention most items that contain caffeine typically dehydrate you which is another con to add to the list.

Best of luck to everyone and I hope that if you find this little list useful and adhere to it that it helps not only your lap times, but your life in general.

cheers,

Huk, I totally agree with that. 👍

I was thinking to myself this morning: "How else can I improve my times that aren't really actually driving related?". Diet, exercise, sleep 👍

Huk knows what's up...

My strategy is to play for an hour and a half at a time, giving each event 30 min. If i'm right on the verge of breaking my record at the end of 30 min, I give myself 2 more laps max and if I don't beat it, I move on. Then I'm going to try and do that twice a day, or at least that's the plan.

Cape ring is a dirty dirty girl, but a little time with her and I think she'll warm up to the idea of me being there. On the other hand, Tsukuba is the bane of my existence and always has been.. Definitely going to be asking for help on this track after another session with it today.

This is a blast!
Holding strong at 87th East. The Cape is just murdering me... my trailbraking needs a ton of work. Took well into the 30's on the other two, I just add 15 seconds on the cape, LOL
Oh well, trying again later.

Not sure if you guys are doing it on Tsukuba or even if the TT allows it but is everyone using the run off on the left hand side of the track after the last sweeping right hander? All the professional Time Attack guys seem to use this run off to carry more cornering speed through the final sweeping right hander. Here is a vid of a very fast rx7 attacking Tsukuba and doing what I am describing.

I've always tried to keep all 4 on the racing surface (curbing included) but if that's what people are doing to set the fastest times then I'll be using that run off. I haven't checked the latest replays today, does anyone know if the fastest people using it?

damn fast rx7 though, sweet video

I really hope they choose different cars and tracks for round 2. Also normal tires would be nice. The stock Z is basically like driving on bald tires. I know this is to weed out the amateurs but still. Something like the R35 Spec-v at Laguna or the R34 at Suzuka.
