With the names of Bill France Sr., Bill France Jr., Dale Earnhardt Sr., Junior Johnson, and Richard Petty making the Hall of Fame, and with more nominees this Thursday, this thread is about who you think will EVENTUALLY become Hall of Famers for NASCAR.



Here are some of the latest inductees for consideration into NASCAR's Hall of Fame, so these would be excluded from any possible answers for Hall of Fame status (unless they just don't get inducted):

The five from the previous section are the ones nominated to be in the next class of NASCAR Hall of Fame. If I had to nominate some to be part of the NASCAR Hall of Fame to eventually make it, here is my short list:

I've always respected names like Bill Elliot, Rusty Wallace, and Mark Martin. Another eventual Hall of Famer to me- Jeff Gordon. Without Jeff Gordon, I wouldn't have even cared about NASCAR. And yes, I think Cale Yearborough will eventually become a NASCAR Hall of Famer along with Darrell Waltrip.



So the question here is... what NASCAR racers do you think will EVENTUALLY become Hall of Famers? Reply away.
 
Where is Wendel Scott?
Scott was the first black man to compete in NASCAR and did it when the Ku Klux Klan still exerted influence in America. NASCAR talks constantly about its diversity programs but, when the chips are down, it's the same old, same old.

Jeff Gordon (boo hiss) but he is good for the sport. Much like D.E. Sr. - you either love him or hate him. There is no in between

With all due respect, I think it's going to be along time until he gets in; mainly because of the entire body of work by many other drivers/owners.

I haven't been to the NASCAR Hall of Fame, but like other HoFs, there's usually displays for all sorts of "firsts" and record-breaking memorabilia. I'd imagine there is (or will be) a little section just for Wendell Scott in that regard, for breaking the color barrier.

Alan Kulwicki is one that will get in sooner, rather than later. He really is the last driver to win a championship in a major racing series while being driver-owner, and that of a very small outfit. His death, a mere six months later, kind of immortalizes him...and he brought the "Polish backwards victory lap" to NASCAR!

Bastards? Why so harsh? Trevor Bayne is going to have to be good for a long time to make the Hall of Fame. Jeff Gordon, Jimmie Johnson, and Rusty Wallace would be SOLID Hall of Fame picks.

Bayne is going to have to win more than the Daytona 500 to make it. He's got a long way to go.

Lifelong Earnhardt fan & I've never cared for either one of those 🤬. There are words I have yelled @ the top of my lungs @ Daytona in the Fanzone that are not allowed here on GTP.

Bayne has got some talent, let's see what he does the next say 15-20 yrs with it.
 
I may not like them as drivers but respect them for what they have acheived. #48's talent stuffed the car this past Speedweeks in the Rolex 24hrs
 
Race car drivers are athletes. As athletes, there are times where they don't perform at their best all the time. So race car drivers will stuff cars into walls, miss shifts, botch leads, get caught up in crashes, and things like that. It's okay to like and dislike drivers, but have some class and respect for other drivers especially if they have done nothing to hurt you or anyone else.

Take myself for example- I'm not a real fan of Tony Stewart or Kyle Busch, but I respect them because they know how to win races and/or finish high. What does Tony Stewart has that Rowdy doesn't? Right- Cup Championships. He was an open-wheel star in the old Indy Racing League before finding success in NASCAR Cup. I think just about every sport (including motorsports) has at least one personality that just isn't going to be a fan favorite to everybody. I've always called Paul Tracy my favorite bad boy in racing. Not many people liked him for some of his actions, like when Paul Tracy and Alex Tagliani had that fight in that (then) Champ Car World Series race on the streets of San José. Still- I respect the hell out of Paul Tracy.

All I'm saying is... it's good to be an Earnhardt fan, but have class and respect for others who helped pave the way and have become stars in their own right. Jeff Gordon and Jimmie Johnson have a combined total of nine Cup championships and well north of 100 wins between them. If you think these two guys don't have talent considering these numbers, you need to have your head examined and your NASCAR history be questioned.
 
I think Roger Penske might eventually make it in at some point in the future.

He may not have a Sprint Cup Championship YET (got Nationwide last year in a dominating fashion), but his cars have always been competitive, he's been around for almost 40 years (winning multiple times with three separate makes - AMC, Ford, and Dodge), and he's got personality and grit. He's won an incredible amount of races in NASCAR, and has been able to wipe the floor in Indycar and sports car racing as well.

And his cars/drivers have never been as good as they are currently, so thinks are definitely bright for that organization.
