With the huge amount of cars in GT4, it's almost as if you drown in the huge choice of cars you can have. Buying and selling cars like crazy without having any satisfaction with your new car. It's the kind of thing that I really hate about the game.
I never found one single favorite car in GT4.
I always keep on selling and buying cars, and then when I just bought a car I realise the same second I could as well sell it for another one.

In GT3 however, I had a feel with any new car I bought in order to win some races. I remember saving up for a Mitsubishi 3000GT because it was such an insanely fast opponent in the turbo races.
I remember doing good and getting my first race car, the black-yellow Penzoill Nismo  I loved it!
And everytime I got a new car I changed the oil, washed it 3 times. Then did a test run on my personal test course. I did test runs on the big oval test track, getting the most speed out of it. I was busy with one single car for a pretty good amount of time.
Now in GT4, I've got cars in my garage that I just bought and never drove again.

Just wanted to know if anyone else is bugged by this.
I'm going to start all over again.
At 0,0% and I'm going to make a wishlist of cars I want to get eventually. Expensive cars and not-so expensive cars. But it's been the 6th time I start over like this again.

I just ran to a thing resembling this last night. I was browsing through the used car lots when I saw a black Jensen Interceptor and thought "wow, that's a good-looking car in that shiny colour" after which I remembered that I might actually have an Interceptor in my garage... found a black one with 0.0 kilometers on the clock. A licence prize car. Pretty much tells you how much I know about the cars I own... :p

I always have that feeling because i have every single car, yet keep buying loads of cars i already own.

So my question to you is: do you actually spend time with these cars that you constantly buy and sell? Do you get to know their merits as well as their faults? Do you challenge yourself with the cars you buy or are you just insterested in going for the highest horsepower you can find and blow all the sim cars away?

And my answer to this thread is: definitely not! I'm not bugged by the huge selection of GT4. I'll admit that when I started GT3 a couple years ago, it was refreshing to have a limited choice of cars (especially after GT2). 3 is like: just buy a car..drive it A LOT...don't worry about getting anything else..just buy & drive drive drive. But as I got well into the game I began to get a bit bored with the GT3 car selection. The actual racing was good & fun...but the selection? Oh boy..looks like I'll race my red (and only red) Oreca Viper....again :guilty:

Matter of fact in GT4 I vow to avoid the following:

Mustang Cobra R

Oreca Viper

Camaro Race Car

Mercedes DTM

Ford Focus Rally car

....any LM cars I touched in GT3

Not that any of them are bad...it's just my first reaction is: I'm done with these and hope to never touch one of these cars again!

Well I do have this feeling sometimes, but more phraised like this:

"Oh my god, so many cars, so limited time!"

I found it to be very interesting you don't have a favourite car in GT4..

I mean everyone who loves cars, which I'd expect you to, else you wouldn't be on this forum, has at least one car he'd say to: "I am pleased to see you."

advice:
Maybe you should, as you've mentioned, restart.

but first:

TAKE A BREAK!

I'm pretty sure you'll need a break. Just lay GT4 aside for a week or two.

i somehow have an obsession with old unfast cars too. it adds an element of normalness: strangely i always seem to get a rush of adrenaline out of a fiat panda (i know)

I'm like that in Gran Turismo 1. I have like 30 cars, including Silvia LM, Del Sol LM, Viper GTS-R, and Cerbera LM, but the only ones I really drive much are the Chaser LM and purple Dodge Copperhead ('Concept Car').

I want to go through GT4 ONLY using cars from the 80's. :sly:

I want to have the little '73 Civic, and tune it to the max, which is about 220 hp. And thats about 5-6 seconds to 60! I beat an E-Class with that car.... :D

You may want to change the title of the thread, because right now it reads like you're offering us a garage full of meaningless cars.

But to answer your question I've never had that feeling. Every car appeals to me as a new victim for a photomode shoot, so they have some sort of purpose for me atleast.

I've been combatting exactly this same feeling by trimming down my garage to only those cars I truly enjoy for one reason or another, and only keeping a single car of each type. It feels a lot more like "your Elise" or "your Yellowbird" if you've only got one of them... Since you can tune each one 3 different ways with ease, this really isn't much of a limitation, but I have found it makes the game much more satisfying.

True. I currently have 4 games going in GT4...each one has its own theme. Like one memory card is all yuppy/soccer mom cars for instance. So I'm constantly selling off cars I win that don't fit this theme.

So true! This goes for other great games as well.

No i haven't felt like a garage of meaningless cars, becasue then scrolling your garage for cars is pathetic.

P.S. I'm pretty sure the Mitsubishi 3000GT isn't a Turbo Car, it's an NA.

Maybe a tip for the guys who have this feeling: go buy another (used) game.
If you keep playing the same game over and over again, you get bored.
Example:

Yesterday I bought Metal Gear Solid 3.(used game > €15) I haven't touched it yet, but when GT4 starts to bore me and I get the feeling I am looking to a meaningless garage, I will start that game for shure.

If you don't know what game to "keep as backup" take a visit to Gamespot or IGN

(this doesn't mean no GTP, hehe)

I only hope I someday get bored with GT4! Maybe then I'll get some yardwork done this summer (NOT)

Well, the huge car choice is just such a big feature of GT4. If I start up GT4 and get to my gran turismo screen, I'm like looking at all those countries from wich to buy cars. And only 5 symbols are actually for racing. So I ignore the races and feel like...obligated to buy a new car lol.

It's probably just the way I look at the game currently. I started over again with a different mindset. That's difficult, because I don't know what my previous mindset was. But right now, I just started with my old trusty trueno. Ala GT3. Instead of feeling obligated to buy different cars, I'll just take the route I've always loved in GT3. A well planned, "looking-forward-to-the-next best-car-choice" road.

And instead of thinking things like "Oh I have to save my first car I started out with!", "Oh lets buy all kinds of cars and make one my favorite!" or "I should equip every car with N3 because it's more realistic!". I'm just going to run through the races as efficiently as possible and will thén see wich car was a memorable car for me. Play it as the game presents itsself. I'll still drive without aids though.

Right now I've got 3 cars, my white Trueno (not the one I chose as a first car), a Ruf RGT (Darkblue), and a Ruf Yellowbird.
Now, I've never loved the yellowbird but I got some good-looking rims for it now. Then I did the Tuner Car race, in Professional hall. And it was one awsome car! Especially on El Capitan it showed me how twitchy and unforgiving it could be. Made for a lovely replay. I outran every single car on the straights, but cornering was just a real pain. I lost speed through the corners, where the opposition could catch up on. But then the long straight appeared in front of me again :dopey:

The Ruf RGT on the other hand, is just such a beautifully balanced car.
I just chose that car because it could enter a huge variation of races at once. But it's already my favorite car (hehe);)

Oh well it's going good again! I'm done in the beginners and professional hall at the moment, so I'll swap to the European Hall and see what my RGT can earn there. Then I hope I'll have some cash saved up for the car I've missed for a long time...the Penzoill Nismo :D

Yea I have like way to many S2000's all of different years, same with FD's, and all the oldie DOHC Skylines, but I dont feel like its meaningless.

It's not because I'm a filthy rich professional Toyota RSC Salesman, and I can buy all the cars I want when I want, and how many I want heheh:mad:

That's cool. I see where you're coming from now.

I have found that I am using GT4 as a source. Im trying to balance my racing in the game with buying my dream muscle cars that I will never afford in real life. Im using it fill the gap in my life, collecting muscle cars. lol

I impulsively shop in the historic showroom. Ooooh that's neat. Gotta buy it. Cars I remember from my youth, mostly. While I don't worship Muscle Cars like I did in the 70's, I do have a few ponycar favorites that I just had to have too. I've got a lot of 60's and 70's European and Japanese toys. And, since my first real car was a Datsun 510, I've acquired a Bluebird in every color. There's quite a few that I just haven't gotten around to driving yet.

-a couple of random thoughts about my garage...

Now why didn't they see fit to add a first generation RX-7?

I don't think I own a single Skyline yet in GT4.

Meaningless? No Way.

I own 24 different coloured Superbirds... :nervous: Now, I've never felt that pointlessness to GT4, but then again, my PS2 failed for 5 months until I fixed it, so it has yet to bore me. Especially suprising since I got 100% in just over 3 months. Latest challenge attacked was getting 80 golds taken care of... Well...;)

I dunno, I think it's better taking what you already have and making new challenges with them. :D As of late I've been taking some of my older cars I haven't touched in weeks and re-tuning them or stripping parts off to get that old factory feel back. And I've been taking on finding the best stock vehicle/ close race for the Nür 4 Hour. So far a Monaro won by only 3.2 seconds. :D Same goes for any endurance actually. Plus I've been experimenting with N tyres and other stuff... It's all in how you enjoy it, I suppose.

Cheers,
Jetboy

It's pretty suprising to reading everyone's focus on the game.
It seems like you can look through dozens of angles towards GT4.
I think I was just lost in all those possible things to do in GT4, and that I never picked a personal point of view on GT4 because of that.

Now it seems like I'm very race orientated, and that I only get a favorite car out of GT4 if it's been special to me in some kind of race. Problem was, that I never raced before I realised this ;) I was just testing and testing and doing free runs all the time.
