I apparently did a few years ago. Tell me what you make of this:

I used to work in a sales office. The secretary/receptionist was named Sandy. The manager was Bob. My predecessor, who had been gone for years, was named Jerry. He had left and moved to another state about 1200 miles away.

One day, prompted by the resurfacing of an old project that Jerry had worked on, Sandy and Bob started talking about him. They reminisced about what a character he was, and regaled me with stories of some of his funny misadventures and foibles. They both missed him, and they were kind of sad that neither had had any contact with him for at least two years.

This conversation went on for about twenty minutes. Finally, Bob sighed and said "We ought to try to get in touch with him some time." He then got up out of the chair by Sandy's desk that he was sitting in, and walked back into his office. He had just sat down when the phone rang.

Yeah, you guessed it. It was Jerry.

Sandy, stunned and shocked in amazement, gasped into the phone: "Jerry! We were just talking about you! What made you call us right at this instant after so long?"

His reply: "Oh, I don't know. I just got to thinking about you two."

How do you calculate the odds, folks? What are the chances of Jerry starting to think about Sandy and Bob at that precise moment in time after so long?

We've all had moments when we realized we were thinking the same thing that somebody else was, but those can always be explained by circumstance. Not this time. This episode defies explanation by any means other than some sort of mental communication, doesn't it?

Anybody had anything like this happen to them?

Me and a friend were hanging out, and kind of bored. We were talking, and we finished a conversation. There was about a minute worth of silence... and then we both, at the same time, start singing the same song.

It wasn't like we were talking about that song or anything. It was never mentioned. It was just so random.

We finished the first line of the song and both yelled "WHAT THE ****?"

And I can't think of the song for the life of me..

Not really as extreme as this, but I've managed to pick up the phone, put it to my ear, notice there's no dial tone - Then someone says "Hello - Anybody there ?" ... Twas me mom who I hadn't spoken to in a few days - and I wanted to call when picking up the phone.. Nothing bad was up or anything.. I think most people have little things like this happen to them...

Thats happened many times,,,,,............ :scared:

Well, I've had a few.

Me and my Dad occationaly talk at the same time after a moments silence, and if not that he says something that I was exactly thinking about!

And last night on MSN, me and ExigeExcel both said go to go both at the same time when we never spoke for about 30 mins!

Phone calls from the person we were about to ring is a common thing too.

There are more, I just can't remember.

That's freaky, and a major coincidence, but is it ESP?... well, I suppose it would have been if either Sandy or Bob had said they had a feeling that Jerry was going to ring... maybe they did... weird nonetheless....

I've had many coincidences that are almost too banal to even mention. I was flicking from channel to channel once, and the person speaking on each channel said the word 'revolution' on three consecutive flicks... that was weird. Totally meaningless, but freaked me out I can tell you! :sly:

I once saw a guy walking down the round who I thought was a buddy of mine from Uni I hadn't seen in about 3 years. I was about to say hi when I realised it wasn't him. About 2 minutes later, guess who I bumped in to? That was very odd, but again, there was a good reason why we were both there... we were both coming back to the Uni to speak to different people on the same day.

More recently, and once again, an incredibly banal experience, I was sitting in my back garden and I saw a tiny white dot up in the sky. I kept watching it for about 10 minutes until it became apparent that it was just a plastic bag that was floating in the summer air. It was coming towards my house, and getting lower and lower, until it landed on my roof! It was just weird that I spotted it while it was so far away, and then it landed right on my roof! Even more oddly, I went out that afternoon and staggered home later that night. And what was sitting peacefully on my doorstep when I got home, but the mystery bag! It had somehow come off the roof and then made it's own way right into the porch area infront of my front door and stayed there  I kept the bag for a couple of weeks for no apparent reason...:odd:

I was leaving my mom's house and as I started to pull away she ran up and knocked on the window. She then opened the door and grabbed the seatbelt I forgot to put on and handed it to me saying, "You forgot your seatbelt. I'd hate for you to have an accident and something happen."

Three miles from her house my steering made an odd noise and caused me to take my eyes off the road. I dropped a back tire in the ditch, spun, and flipped onto the roof. When the car settled I was hanging by the seatbelt with my head about two inches from a jagged piece of metal where the roof caved in some.

It was kind of freaky but I attribute it to motherly paranoia.

Remember, the phone rang about twenty seconds after Bob said "We ought to try to get in touch with him some time." That means Jerry started dialing the phone only a few seconds after Bob finished that sentence.

Seems to me they did, indeed, "get in touch" with Jerry...

It's certainly unlikely that he would call right as you were talking about him, but not unlikely enough to say the best explanation is ESP.

It's like winning the lottery, an event like this is bound to happen to someone at some point. The chances of it happening to you are extremely slim, but at some point its going to happen so somebody.

I have a Deja-vu ESP thing every other day.

I think I dream the future, but I forget what I dream, so it's like I didn't dream that night. Then, at some scene during the day it's like "woah, I SWEAR I did this already."

I'm still waiting for that admission slip from Prof. Xavier.

Yeah, I get Deja-vu. Recently I haven't got it for AGES, but about a year ago it happened all the time.

"I SWEAR I've seen this before".

Sometimes it even freaks me out. :scared:

Oh man, that is so freaky and lucky. But the question is, would it have happenned if your mum hadn't reminded to put on your seatbelt? :sly:

Me and my step brother or me and one of my friends always think of the same thing at the same time. Kinda weird.

It is much less unnerving to think that she had some crazy mother paranoia vision than it is to think that she jinxed me into totaling a car somehow.

Needless to say I am a constant seatbelt wearer now. I even let the car sit idling until me wife puts hers on.

I knew, I just KNEW on September 25 of this year that someone was going to create a topic of this nature in the immediate future! Just kidding (obviously), but the following happened to me....

A short term marriage to a high school flame ended in an amicable divorce over twenty years ago. I remarried shortly thereafter, and my wife and I are the proud parents of two beautiful young women. My family and I ran into my ex on one occasion about fifteen years ago when my kids were very young. She explained that she was planning to move out of town and she complimented my wife and I on our lovely children.

About ten years ago, I woke up in the middle of the night realizing that I had had a dream wherein out of the blue, my ex introduced me to her fiancé, and basically informed me that they were going to be married in the morning. I woke my wife and relayed this information to her.

My wife asked me if I had seen the ex recently, and if I knew where she lived. I hadn’t seen the woman in many years, and I had no idea, but I did tell her what the future groom’s name was. He was some fellow whose name was not familiar to me (at the time). My wife told me to go back to sleep. Well I did, and basically forgot about the incident until about a month later when a brief article appeared in the social section of the local newspaper congratulating the newlyweds.

She had been married in Houston, three hundred miles from my home, on the date, and to the fellow that I told my wife about. I don’t know about it being ESP, but this entire incident was pretty weird.

Nothin glike that's happened to me, but often I can be unpheasably and unexplainably lucky.

Is it just a coincidence, or does it mean something that there's a quote about coincidence in a thread about coincidence, that I coincidentally happened to stumble upon?

[edit]

I'm talking about ultrabeat's signature right above this post. Coincidence? Certainly odd.

Why am I here?

This post makes the most sense out of any I've read in here, the chances of it happening to you are slim, but when you multiply theos chances by the number of people it could happen to and all of a sudden it becomes far more likely. Like that lottery example, one person buys a ticket, he's got a one in however many million chance of winning, 10 million people buy a ticket each and all of a sudden theres a pretty good chance at least one of thoes people will have the wining numbers.

Think of the number of times you've thought of someone and they haven't phoned you. Think of the number of times you've thought of someone and they have phoned you. Divide the number of times they have phoned by the number of times they haven't and if it's above 0.1 I'll give you a coconut. It's purely chance, there's nothing to this "remote dialing" stuff, IMHO.
