Up until 2015 people were allowed to stand this close to 220mph cars behind just a concrete barrier. It wasn't uncommon to see these people duck during a race. It was banned around 2014 when a crash on the start of the race at the roadcourse injured some people who were standing behind the wall.

McRae said afterwards they should never have been allowed to run. The spectators seemingly totally unphased by a sideways rally car heading towards them at high speed.

Portugal was always the worst for crowd control. It’s great that the Rally is so popular there, but even now, the organizers have issues with the crowds.
