Booooooooooooooooo

Yep it's that time of year again (Or if you've been doin modular it's just the last kick in the teeth), the time when your parents start giving a damn, the time when you have to look back at all the broing stuff and realise just how damn boring it was.

So, everyone here started prepping yet? Already fed up of your teacher's revision ravings? Only just realised that it wasn't a great idea choosing 2 foreign laguages?

Personally, I have already started making revision notes. Mainly revsion flip cards with a topic on the front and brief notes on the back.

Subjects being taken....
Science -Triple
Maths
English lit+lang
Welsh (Short) (Compulsory :/)
R.E (Short)
Spanish
ICT
D&T resistant materials
Statistics

[EDIT]Okay the threads been renamed to include AS and A-level. I'd rather not title it as a general exam thread but others are welcome to post what subjects they're sitting in their own nations.

Well im doing Alevels now, but ill muscle my way in here anyway :p. Im taking MathsA2 GeographyA2 BusinessA2 General StudiesA2 (dont ask) and FurthermathsAS. GCSE i cant remember exactly what i took but i got 13 A*-C's :p. Including 2 languages!! They suck so much more at Alevel, i dropped French after AS because i got an E, lol.
Im wasnt a great beleiver in revision at GCSE...think i did about 2 hours total. But you should do it! Its great practive for at ALevel! If you dont revise there your Fudged!
Revision cards work well, also revising in groups helps. We were given a huge talk on revision today by head of SixthForm..Same as usual, start revising now, 35 hours a day etc.

Slightly off topic...why do Brits call the subject where you work numbers "maths" rather than "math"? Does "math" have a different meaning when it is singular?

I think it's because 'Math' isn't one single topic. There's absolutely loads of sub-topics, so we call it 'maths'.

I'm abit annoye really because I've been told I have to 'Mentor' 3 people in my Chemistry class, 1 is alrite, the other I don't mind too much but the other just pisses me off. I couldn't have had a worse bunch.

Ahh, makes sense. Sort of like studying the sciences. Thanks.

Bah.

If this was the 'The GCSE Thread 1996' then I could join in.

I'm old. :(

I wonder if you will get lucky in your english one like i did:D All i had to do was write about a fantasy car that people would want to buy:D

jeez.. was it really a year ago I took mine.. Anyway AS levels this time around.. 22 May will be fun

- Core Maths 1
- Core Maths 2
- General Studies Science & Maths

This time next year I should be doing my Maths and English GCSEs. Not really looking forward to them, but I'm not even in the course yet!

My brother is doing his Year 9 SATS at the moment though.

The subject is "mathematics". We concatenate to "maths", rather than abbreviate to "math".

I think this thread needs renaming....

Are they stopping the Yr9 SATs in England? I know this is the last year they're doing them in Wales.

The only GCSE I am taking this year is English, because I did my GCSE exams last year. :D

I am currently taking the BTeC National Diploma for IT Practitioners which is equilivant to 3 A-Levels. :)

Good luck everyone with their GCSE's, my advice, don't underestimate the importance of revision, but don't over revise, it'll seriously numb your brain. Revise in bit's, it's good to re-revise subject's your not as well up on, but set time limits then take a break, then revise some more.

Boo GCSE's

On a GCSE year side note, I got 92% in my food tech coursework, and my mum asked "out of what?"

Don't mention courseowork, especially D.T.

I still haven't given in my RM coursework. The problem is there's 25 of us in the class, 1 teacher, 1 Wood work assistant, 2 tower drills, 2 belt sanders... But no powered saw that we're allowed to use :banghead:

Heh, I've dropped 15% of my music mark because I missed a recording deadline. :nervous:

Still, I'm trying to cut my losses, and i'm not doing too badly. I'm pretty much on target for all my minimum grades, except RE. The syllabus is so boring and badly taught, it's a joke. :banghead:

Are these tests (I assume they're tests) the equivalent of the Advanced Placement tests we have in the US?

If so, I had my AP English Language test monday, and I'll have my AP US history test Friday.

GCSEs are taken in pretty much every subject - with a collection of "core" subjects all students must take and a further selection they can pick and choose from - usually a total of 8-10 subjects, at age 15-16. Students may leave school at this point, or continue to...

A-Levels are taken in a selected few subjects - entirely of the student's choice - usually a total of 3-5 subjects, at age 17-18, prior to leaving the school system. Again, they may leave the education system at this point, or continue on to university level education.

I've already taken one GCSE, in RE, we took it a year early for some reason. I got an A in that and now i only need 3 more C's to gain entry to my Diploma course :)

My class should have taken R.E a year early but we pissed about too much. Plus there's too many people with 'strong' opinions. A fox hunter with kennels, a vegan, a devout christain, too many pro-life 16yr olds and on the last count 4 homosexuals (Plus one bi.)

All makes for alot of high tension discussion.

Didn't edit, felt this thread could do with a revival.

I've had my IT key skills (Way too easy), Spanish Listening and reading and English Literature so far.

Does anyone else thing a 2 and a half hour exam is just a little too long!?

I SMASHED my history final yesterday. But, everyone finished before me because I wrote an epic novel for each of my essay questions. Hahaha.

Had Eng. Lit and IT yesterday, nothing again until Friday.

What book did you study Evan?

"I'm The King Of The Castle" by Susan Hill.

The most depressing book ever.

Someone dies in the first line, and the main character is bullied all the way through then kills himself.

Sounds like a real riot.

IC was good because the movie/play was kind of funny, and TKMB is great for re-enacting for 'revision'

Yeah i had to do 'to kill a mockingbird' for my English Literature. I didn't like it much, but the exam is over now and i'm pleased with what i did.

Hmm.. I did an Inspector calls for my English Coursework..

Unfortunatly, It was more intresting than "Of Mice and Men" for my Literature exam
