I've been looking to solve the problem of optimal cornering which is clearly key to GT, so I found a great cornering tutorial based on real world driving, but it applies just the same to GT. Very interesting! It explains things in a simple way with diagrams, and you may be surprised at some of the revelations such as the normal Apex and Racing Apex. How to take Hairpins etc different optimum racing lines for all types of corner depending on car speed, car type etc

If someone has already posted this somewhere then I haven't found it!

There's also these two with a little tuning guide at the bottom.👍

These seem to work for me in GT6, and help the car feel good for me, but apparently I've got to sacrifice all this and do mostly the opposite to be fast.

Guess I'd rather run a Ridox replica tune that feels right to me, than tune unrealistically/exploitatively to be fast, and keep my disbelief suspended that what feels right is actually making me slower.

I must neck placebos.

I wonder if "Trail Braking" ( I always thought this was a Transformer lol) works well in the game as It's mentioned in the article? The mantra of driving is don't brake in corners, but sometimes you can brake later and then gently brake in a corner before the Apex. I'm sure many of us do this subconsciously when entering a corner too fast.

Another tip I took that works for me now is don't coast at the end of straights, you should either be braking or accelerating in straights , don't coast to reduce speed as it wastes time.

I posted this back in GT5 and again after GT6 released. I can't remember exactly where I posted it, but I know I did along with some other helpful links. Its been awhile though so it probably just got buried. But yea, I've known about the guides since GT5. There are a bunch of other ones I have also which I'll post after I get back from my Dr.'s appointment. I have loads of this stuff. If I'm not racing/time trialing, I'm reading about it. 👍

Lots of late adopters around lately it seems Mitch, the GT6 section would be very dead if it weren't for the camber thread or choosing to chime into questions/threads you thought were answered/created a year ago.

It's all getting a bit jaded, the camber thread seems the final battleground, unless course creator, b-spec arrives and they need defending/attacking.

Somebody asked about silver chrome paint for about the millionth time earlier. Bored, I chimed in.

Yeh I've only had the game since Christmas! Although I'm a past GT2 and GT3 veteran, didn't play it really after GT3 until now. This is my first PS3 GT game.

Sure, I thought somebody would have found this! I'm from a GT2 and GT3 background, this is my first GT since then
after years away.

Braking in GT is not like braking in real life. ABS in GT is as much of a stability enhancer as it is about braking. The key to alien speed in GT IMO, on top of running good racing lines obviously, is managing the brake release oversteer you find on most FR's and MR's, rotating the car as quickly as possible just before the apex and getting on the throttle as early as possible.

Next time you hit the track focus on nothing but getting the car rotated when lifting off the brakes near the apex and on to the throttle as early as possible. See what happens to your lap times.

Tip by 3x F1 champ Jackie Stewart: When you apply throttle at the exit of a corner, make sure you dont need to stop pressing it.
He taught this to James May when he was teaching him how to race more efficiently.

I think there's a license test with a BMW at Trial Mountain that aims to teach trail braking. Or maybe that was in GT5?

REALLY good read. Thank you! I've been trying to make any subconscious driving techniques disappear and actually learn the right ways of cornering and this was just what I needed.

indeed, I found that tip very useful in gaming. what he said about braking was good too 👍

Ànd that is what I have the most trouble with! I know what to do, just have trouble doing. :grumpy:
