Export to XMB?

When looking at a pic in the album there's the option to export to XMB, the jpeg filesize is 331kb but clicking on export it says at least 500mb space is required, that's over 1000x the size of the file, can anyone shed any light on why this is?

It's probably so you can store more than 1 picture.

That would seem very odd to me, I could browse this photo forum on the PS3 and save the jpeg images without having to set aside any space for other photos I might save in the future.

It's just a blanket statement about the potential size of some of files that you may be creating and to ensure that you have the appropriate amount of space on your drive to store it is all.
