F.E.A.R. or Halflife 2?

I've been having an on-going argument with a couple of friends for the past couple days about this topic. They're both amazing. Clearly. But which is the "better game" in your opinion? Or do you think that they're uncomparable because they're so different? I'm interested to see what people think.

F.E.A.R is good in Mutliplayer and has a good story line. But HL2 has the better gameplay for its story line.

Best game for modding at the moment is HL2, since theres no mod tools out for F.E.A.R, but i hope they bring an SDK out for F.E.A.R. . Think of the mods that can come out for it.

I love HalfLife 2, i'm not so sold on F.E.A.R.

But in reality they are pretty different, and it's the differences that sway my opinion not that one is better than the other.

Why do you have to choose? Play them both until you puke. I think they are both great games, but as was mentioned, the MOD quality of HL2 is so much more active that the HL2 engine would prevail over the F.E.A.R. engine which only has Condemned: Criminal Origins for Xbox 360 being announced as using the same engine. I think it's pointless to compare them. The games are similar, but F.E.A.R. is set in a different evironment and HL2 doesn't have slow motion.

It has slow motion when you drop to less than 20 frames per second. :)

HL2 showcases the environment, whereas F.E.A.R. showcases confrontations like most linear first persons shooters. I would be more apt to compare HL2 with Far Cry . And FEAR with Doom or Q4.

I don't even think it's fair to compare FEAR with Doom. I haven't played Quake 4 yet. Doom was trash in my opinion, where as FEAR totally rocks. I just think that if a game can keep you completely on edge, and make you as paranoid as FEAR does, that it's a game worth playing, and talking about with the rest of the top FPS out there. It is obviously a much darker game than HL2, but I wouldn't compare to it Doom in terms of the type of "scary" that it is. FEAR is all about suspense, tension, paranoia, and basically trying to make you fear whatever will be in the next room. But it's not "jumpy" like Doom is. There's no enemies constantly busting out of doors and through windows. At least not so far. :dopey: Graphically, I believe FEAR is the best looking game out of the above games mentioned?
