So what do you think Codemasters should have implemented from Sony's F1 Championship Edition game?

I really liked the race commentary in F1CE. I know a real F1 driver doesn't hear that but it makes you feel like you are actually a part of the championship and you get an idea where the other drivers are. This is particularly handy when you are in a battle for the chamionship so you know how many places ahead or behind another driver you can afford to be etc.

They should have made it so that players who pick 7 season-careers have the option of having to be a test driver, etc. I understand they didn't bother with this originally because its fairly mundane and time-consuming for the average player, but at least let the hardcore out there have a fuller experience.

I don't really care what Davidson says about the real world, it would also be nice to completely customise the setups in the game. Ok, so a driver can't do that in reality, but surely they do plan the setup before hand? What if I don't like the setup the team have decided? I don't really feel its necessary to be realistic in this aspect, it sounds like lazy design to me.

The AI in general needs to be much harder like CE. I actually preferred the tough-as-nails wet weather AI in that game compared to the pathetic AI in 2010. It should not be this easy to win races in a Virgin in your first season, it wasn't easy to win with Super Aguri in CE (talking hardest difficult settings here)!
They also need to make the AI smoother. Its not especially immersive having the AI constantly do small little swerves all the time like they are lagging out or something. It just doesn't look good. The AI is just too erratic in its movements.

They need to fix Monaco and its rediculous barrier-physics. The barriers are far too bouncy and have weird glitches when you touch them that throw your car in the air. They also need to fix the tunnel as its just wrong.

The damage model needs vast improvement. I felt CE was a lot better. Rear wings need to break, there needs to be more types of mechanical failures.

They need to improve the "equality" of the online cars. There still feels like there is a difference between the cars when you set it to "Equal". CE just used to give everyone effectively the physics of the best car (I think it was the Renault?) with only the appearance of their selected car. 2010 seems to simply give everyone the same horsepower and downforce but the handling is still different.

^ I forgot about the test driver thing, but I agree that was awesome in F1CE. It's more realistic and gives you a sense of accomplishment when you actually lock down a full time drive.

I'll agree that the AI isn't perfect but it's better than GT5... Not so much the actual wheel to wheel racing but at least you don't win every race on the first lap. But I agree they need to smooth out the reactions of AI drivers because their behaviour can be very off putting at times when you are actually trying to race for position.

overall though I think aside from adding new content, F1 2011 will be a smoothing out process. And that is a very good thing IMO because I am still loving F1 2010

First of all, the A.I. difficulty needs to be upgraded considerably. The A.I. is also a bit "twitchy" and they are terrible in the rain...

I also agree that monaco is "wrong" in certain places, but this game walks all over F1CE imo. The bonus cars/track seem a popular option too.

Damage modelling needs to be upgraded considerably too, but I am confident that F12011 will address a lot of issues from F1CE. Let's keep in mind that Sony had been making F1 games for years before F1CE.

I personally have loved to made my way up from a test driver...gives you a really good sense that you have accomplished something!

True, and for their first game, Codemasters did an incredible job. To me, this game is the complete opposite to GT5 in that Codemasters nailed the basics of what makes a good racing game, graphics, sound and racing. Admittedly there are a few issues which should be addressed in F1 2011 but overall the game looks and feels solid.

I've recently started a new career and the nervous feeling you get during qualifying or during the final laps of a close race are what racing games should be all about.
