FIA Formula One World Championship
Round 1 - Bahrain - Qualifying
After a satisfactory practice session, Jenson Button went into Q1 in high spirits. The Brit was quickly into his stride on the sweltering desert track, consistently clocking times in the high 1:34's, which was a good 3 seconds inside the cut-off position of 16th. Then, on his last possible lap during Q1, Button clocked a magnificent 1:34.212, which was enough to put him 2nd fastest for that session.
Button quickly picked up where he left off in Q2, flying round the track in superb times, although mid-way through the session, he span off whilst going round the penultimate corner, smashing into the barricade, and having to return to the pits. There was only enough time for 2 more laps, so he knew he would have to push to safely get into Q3, as after his crash he was down in 12th place. What followed was the fastest lap of all three qualifying sessions, with Button clocking a 1:33.653, which left him on top of the pack going into Q3.
If the previous two sessions were anything to go by, the race for pole position would be between Button and Massa, as both men were significantly quicker than the chasing pack. Massa took the early advantage, capitalizing on any mistake that Button made, and the Ferrari man must have been confident of gaining the first pole position of the season, until Fernando Alonso stunned everybody with a lap of 1:34.252, which would be tough to beat with race fuel now being carried. Button and Massa both fought hard to join Alonso on the front row, and at the end of the session, it was Button who took 2nd spot, with a time of 1:34.292, a fantastic achievement given the Honda car's inferiority compared to the top teams.
I will be doing the race later on this evening, have any of you guys got any feedback? What do you like? What don't you like. I don't want to keep doing this if people arent enjoying it
