when I say follow motogp's example I'm talking about getting the championship on a sustainable path rather than letting certain competing interest(in this case the big teams) continue to have their way. if anything its for this reason why no real reforms seem to be taking place other than the constant bickering over who gets control of the both technical rules and money.

other than that if f1 keeps this up I can realistically see the championship no surviving in the next 10 years...caterham and marussia were just the beginning.

I think more parts need to be standardized to cut costs and bring the field a bit closer together, the problem is though the teams need a say on new regs and they never agree on much, just about every team in F1 spends beyond their means regardless so perhaps sustainability is too much to ask.

I have to assume that Marussia F1's entire parent company completely collapsing about a week before the team did, and Caterham's entire F1 history being financially and legally sketchy culminating in the crowd funding debacle, played no part in their demise this year?

I dunno. The GFC had Toyota and Honda eating KFC, but Brawn and Branson were able to get a C'hip out of it. Now Honda is back in because of an interest in changed engine regulations. Volkswagen+Porsche+Audi want in, but Bernie is still at the helm. We shall see.

Let's not forget these smaller structures where enticed with a cost control incentive in order to replace "big players" leaving the series. Not downplaying eventual financial management errors and/or misjudgements, I don't believe this alone can explain the clear concerns that are now effectively hitting the midfield players too...

Here are some alternative clues.
