In limited running at Barcelona, Antonio Pizzonia was fastest in the Jaguar R3, but this is not surprising since he was the only driver to get any serious running. Webber's R3 died after 2 laps. Meanwhile Toyota were also running, easing their new drivers into the TF102, with Brazilian CART champion appearing to be somewhat off the pace.

In more interesting news, however, Ford's Premier Performance Group boss Richard Parry Jones has confirmed that Niki Lauda is relinquishing his role as head of PPG, and that a decision on the post of "Special Advisor" to Parry-Jones is still awaited from Lauda. Founder and CEO of PI Research Tony Purnell is the new head of PPD, and Ford are actively seeking a new boss for the Jaguar F1 team.

Those of us who have been following F1 for a number of years will undoubtedly have been pricked by the news of the "Special Advisor" post in particular, as Lauda fulfilled that role for Ferrari in the early 90's. It is noteworthy that during this time he achieved almost nothing. Finally, a long long time ago, in a galaxy far far away, I heard a rumour that this was going to happen. As to the replacement, well, let's just say that it's unlikely that Arrows will retain their current management if the rumours are true...

I heard Lauda was sacked on BBC radio. World service, of course. Americans aren't inundated with 500 bbc channels like the brits are. sorry, 501 channels.

In the papers today, Lauda is quoted as saying "It's all just an English conspiracy. They said I don't have the technical skills. They just saw off the legs from your chair and don't say anything and then when you fall you're replaced".

Which one hopes makes more sense in Austrian...

Nonetheless, the "Wayhay, Lauda's been sacked" merry dance continues at the GilesGuthrie house...

Sorry if I was rude. Still, there are a lot of channels.

I didn't see any rudeness, so nothing to worry about! There are a lot of BBC channels, you're right. Most of them tend to be reasonably good, which is handy!

Somewhere in the BBC an exec is envisioning BBC 5000. Can you say nature sounds?

Just a thought on the replacement for Lauda...

Jackie Stewart was there with Richard Parry-Jones at the press conference, and when I saw Paul Stewart at Silverstone this year, he was looking like quite a well man again.
