This is more a random trivia question than anything

I'm now only 3 premium cars and 5 standards away from a 100 percent garage (excluding stealth and chrome) so I decided to finally buy the F2007

When scrolling through the colours I noticed the top bar was changing between Red and Yellow.

Now I don't know much about F1, It doesn't seem to come on television often in New Zealand and I don't know where to watch it online, so this had me curious

Can anybody explain to me the significance of the colour of that bar? if there is any

Short answer: To identify the driver.
If you notice, #5 has one color, and #6 has another.
#5 is Alonso, and #6 is Massa if I'm not mistaken.

On an F1 car, there isn't much difference between two cars of the same team. The sponsors are the same on both cars and so is the overall shape of the car. Aside from the driver number, it can get pretty tricky to ID a certain driver in a pack The cars tend to have one area with a solid color to identify them from several angles.

Currently yes, although back then, I believe it was Kimi in one of the cars alongside Massa, as this car is from 2007.

Ooh I see. I had a feeling that might of been the case but I wasn't too sure.

Thanks for that :) I love learning new stuff so I figured it was worth asking

Indeed you are right. However, is his name present on the car? I know Alonso and Massa names are in the 2010 car. hmm....must check this.

Here's an example of how it works:
You can not see the driver's number from this angle, and because drivers are allowed to change their helmet colors as often as they want (Vettel has a different helmet every race), that colored section makes it much easier to identify which driver is it.

Anytime.

I believe you'll find that, whenever there's two cars on a team which look very similar, this technique will be used. For instance, in DP cars and LM cars, they often are identical aside from the paint of the mirrors. Just a smart way to distinguish the cars in a team.

Audi did a really clever thing with the R8 at Le Mans 2002.
They ran 3 cars that year. All of them completely identical, except for main color that ran across the body.

When these cars run side by side (#3, #1, #2) what do you get?

Wow I never really caught that!

Thanks for that Deko.👍

I was always bummed that PD didn't go for the 2002 Audi machines as well, as the paint schemes make them look much better than the 2001 cars.

Peugeot did a very similar thing a few years back, the cars were identical except one had blue stripes, one had red stripes, and one had white stripes. Coincidence that they're the French colors?

Back to the car, I believe it was Massa in the #6 and Kimi in the #7

This is a bit off topic, But I have been wondering this for awhile about the F1 cars. Why is the nose of the car above the front wing so high up in the air? Wouldn't they want that as low as possible?

It gives better air flow for intakes I believe. It also allows air to flow down onto the under tray of the car

Also so the cars don't ramp off of each other when they get turned around, so when they go off the track they don't dig into the ground and flip, and various other safety reasons implemented following Ayrton Senna's death in 1994 (after that season the high-nose cars became mandatory).

I thought the F2007 was the one where one of the cars was Ferrari red and the other one was bergundy?

There are two versions of each base color, One with the yellow top, And one with the red top. If your referring to GT5's F2007's.

I always found it odd that they came in the darker red (rosso corse if I'm not mistaken....). Why is that? I've never seen a Ferrari F1 in any color but Rosso Scuderia.

I figured it probably was some homage colors or a color Ferrari chose not to run due to branding.

2007 season: Massa & Raikkonen (Alonso was at McLaren with Hamilton)

2010 season: Massa & Alonso
