I personally like the sun and try to get as much of it as possible but I can see where many would want to avoid it. But this seems a bit extreme.

As crazy as that looks, I would consider using one. I hate the sun, can't stand it. It's one of the reasons I hate the beach, in addition to that pesky sand. As much as it gives life it also destroys and gives death. It destroys anything left in the sun for prolonged times including our cars and causes skin cancer if you're not careful.

The sort of headgear you would see being used by a medieval executioner. Not for me, then again, I never go to the beach.

Stupid to us, but the Chinese (& other Asian communities) tend to put social status at a higher importance than the US. Just take a look at how much family values mean to them.
 
If you are wearing something like that in the US you're most likely going to rob a gas station instead of going to the beach.
 
OK, allow me to explain :sly: : The majority of Asian people these days find it fashionable to have whiter skin then the Jones family next door, thus they cover themselves up when the sun comes out. It's the opposite of the way light skinned folk try to get tanned because it (in their minds) makes them feel more attractive.

My wife, stepmother, sister and all the girls I know carry and umbrella/ parasol with them everywhere. That the reason I mentioned above and the high risk of skin cancer these days it what causes lots of them to avoid UV exposure.
 
I can understand that, being Chinese. In Asia generally the fairer your skin, the more attractive you are perceived to be, along with the social class thing etc as well.

Let's see...the media wants light-skinned Blacks, Indians, Hispanics, and now Asians. Then at the end of the day, the White ladies go to tanning salons.

Can't we all Gray along?
 
Surely they'll get a tan around their eyes and mouths which will look even more retarded and will uncover what they've been trying to hide?
 
Judging by what you do see peeking out of those mask in those pictures, I bet they are real cuties underneath the facial condoms.
 
Looks like only the vein are rocking that at the beach. The rest of the people in the background seem to be enjoying their fun n the sun.
 
Asian cultures have been doing this forever. That's why you see old Asian ladies driving around with big card dealer-style visors and elbow-length gloves on.
 
If it will get me extra eggrolls/crab rangoon, some bonus shrimp in my curry, or the elimination of green peppers from all dishes on the menu, I'll buy those for everyone at my local Ho-Lee Chow tomorrow.

Explained already, but it's no more stupid than paying thousands of dollars in tanning salon fees to look like a sunburned tomato in order to impress your pasty white neighbors.
