Right. Stick with me here...
A woman is kidnapped in a planned raid to blackmail her husband. They lock her in the attic of their base but don't realise until she's up there that there's a frickin' phone in the frickin' attic. Oh, come ON!
Jason Statham then smashes the phone with a sledgehammer. But Kim Basinger - the biology teacher - is able to wire the phone up and tap out a 12 digit phone number. And communicate effectively with the person she reaches. DOUBLE Oh, come ON!
All in all, William H. Macy performs well, but is totally wasted, Jason Statham does okay and Chris Evans does very well. Kim Basinger is rubbish, but then so is the plot and pretty much everything else.
The thing is though, the film was bearable in the most part - even the injection of a "Ricky Martin" gag in amongst the peril of a kidnapped woman trying to save her sone from the same fate by directing a stupid aimless teenager over a cannibalised phone, and an aside about stupid woman drivers on their phones - right up until the ending.
Well, not the ending. The credits.
The credits served two purposes. One showed you just how much time in the film the characters spent looking at their bloody mobile phones. The other was the longest advertisement for Nokia ever seen on the face of the Earth. Dreadful.
If you want to like this film, turn it off at the end. Don't watch the credits. If you want to be disenfranchised and angered by a cynical chunk of marketing dollars watch the credits and realise how much you HATE THIS BASTARD FILM.
