Oh, I actually wen't to bed on a weekend night sober yesterday, and had an epiphany, it's easier to get to sleep when your drunk.

Meh, I'm looking worse than usual on this week's quiz, so I'm sitting it out this time.

With a question on American sport, a question on American TV and a question on an American actor?

I'm surprised at you! :D

I don't follow any sport at all, and in fact I rarely watch TV, at least in the form of network series.

I noticed. The answers were verbatim.

What's the point of that?

Well after going to wikipedia I finally figured out what Tibbles did, wow I was way off.

Probably because he's offline and either didn't recieve or get chance to check your answers before he logged off.

Nope, he has read my PM. I checked my sent messages.

*Edit* I'm an idiot; the score is up now. Should have checked the first page first...

Answers are tailing off now... Not many entries this week... :(

I don't know... Last time I posted the answers on a Tuesday I got an awful lot of whining...

Famine
1. (Natural History) - A dubious and rather unique honour is held by a cat named Tibbles. What did he do to gain notoriety?

Tibbles is a very interesting individual. He belonged to a lighthouse keeper by the name of Lyall. Mr. Lyall was lighthouse keeper at Stephen Island - a 1 square mile plot.

One day, Tibbles brought Mr. Lyall a present - as cats do - of the remains of a small bird. Mr. Lyall didn't recognise the bird and sent the remains, along with several others brought by Tibbles, to the British Museum. They identified it as a whole new species - and the only flightless Wren known at that time - and named it "The Stephen Island Wren".

Only they were too late. By the time the species had been identified, Tibbles had tracked down and killed every single member of the species - flightless as it was, it had no means of escape.

Tibbles goes down in history as both discoverer of and sole exterminator of the Stephen Island Wren, the only known case in history of one individual being responsible for the extinction of a species.

2. (TV) - Phillip Fry, Amy Wong, Hermes Conrad, Hubert Farnsworth, Turanga Leela, John Zoidberg and Bender Rodriguez are the major characters in which Fox TV series?

Futurama, of course.

Famine
3. (Sport) - Name the eight teams (1 point per pair) who have qualified for the FIFA World Cup Finals (Germany 2006) for the first time.

Six nations have qualified for the first time outright - Angola, Cote d'Ivoire (Ivory Coast), Ghana, Togo, Trindad & Tobago and Ukraine. Two more have qualified as their current states for the first time - Serbia & Montenegro (previously Yugoslavia) and the Czech Republic (previously Czechoslovakia).

Famine
4. (Chemistry) - After what is the element Copper named?

"Copper" is an Anglicised version of the Latin "Cuprum", the name of modern-day Cyprus.

Famine
5. (Science) - Of what is Urbain Le Verrier (primarily) credited with the discovery?

He is credited with the discovery of Neptune. His claim is the strongest, though there are other claimants.

Famine
6. (Music/TV) - Shaun Ryder - singer-songwriter and member of the Happy Mondays and Black Grape, and voice actor for "Maccer" in GTA: San Andreas - is the only known individual to be named in a television channel charter - that of UK's Channel 4. Why is he named?

Shaun Ryder's name appears specifically to ban him from appearing on live transmissions on Channel 4 at any time. This stems from his inability to prevent himself from swearing and two appearances on the live teatime Channel 4 show "TFI Friday". Imagine how they went...

Famine
7. (Sport) - Who are the current holders of NHL's Stanley Cup?

This is, apparently, some team called "Tampa Bay Lightning", who were the 2004 Stanley Cup winners. Due to a season-long lockout, the Stanley Cup was not competed for in 2005.

Famine
8. (Geography) - Of which island state is Antananarivo the capital?

Madagascar.

Famine
9. (Film) - Who played the roles of Richter, Rick Heatherly (better known as "Jester") and General Katana in some late-80s/early-90s action films?

Richter (Total Recall), "Jester" (Top Gun) and General Katana (Highlander II) were all played by Michael "I can't keep my eyes off Famine's girlfriend's tits" Ironside.

Famine
10. (Medicine) - For what disease is Yersinia pestis the agent responsible?

Plague - any form really.

BlazinXtreme's answer for #1 was "Schroedinger's Cat", which made me laugh so much he got a point for it.

No.

However, if you like you can go sit in front of your computer for 20 minutes and look puzzled. This should acheive the quiz effect without there having to be a quiz.
