I just purchased the Fanatec 911 Turbo S wheel today used from a Friend.

I have a playseat and everything is hard mounted.

I was super excited to get started on GT5 with this baby.

Upon playing my first race I noticed that I was randomly shifting gears.

Then I realized that if I put any pressure on the left or right side of the wheel it would shift, to the point that I can shift my car just by putting pressure in these areas.

I tried to avoid putting any pressure on the wheel, but into corners its almost impossible, and I unfortunately can't keep my car in the gear I want with this wheel.

I can't see any defects, I have the stock paddle shifters(little ones) and sure enough I can hear the paddle shifters actually click when the wheel moves.

Has anyone ever experienced this?

If you have the H shifter installed and not calibrated it can cause the issues you're describing. I have the same wheel and a similar problem. Make sure that the shifter is calibrated. If it is and you choose to use the paddles to shift make sure the shifter is in neutral. If you're not going to use it unplug or remove it. Some games when you start puts you in neutral instead of first with shifter plugged in and configured. That is if your planning to use the paddle shifters.

Try that out and see if it solves your problem.

Peace.

Yes it was mostly an incorrectly configured H Shifter.

I also was putting to much pressure on the wheel, enough pressure and the paddle shifter will actually make contact with the sensor and cause a shift.

Since then I have learned to play with this wheel. And its pretty amazing really. Glad to report that all is well. I updated to latest firmware for both dongle and wheel and was able to adjust my deadzone settings in GT5 making this wheel playable again.

However I broke my H shifter being to aggressive! So now I have to fix or MOD something up or order new one. Already engaged support.
