Hey guys,

I was contemplating buying the Fanatec Carrera wheel since its now just £80 or so, and I just had a couple of questions.

I have a speed black evo stand, which is terrible but I'm on a budget. Anyway would the the clamp be big enough to clamp to the stand which is about 1 inch thick?

I live in the uk so do the rods that support the shifter go to the left as well?

Finally, does the package come with just an H-shifter or a sequential as well?

Thanks in advance :)

If i remember properly, the clamp will adjust to fit up to 1.5 inches.

The package only comes with the h shifter. At least when I got mine 2 years ago.

The shifter rods will mount either left or right.

Thanks Caz that's good to hear :)

Would you recommend the wheel? I have a dfgt and I like how I can upgrade various parts of the set as I go along.

For example I can get the csr pedals for £45 or so, or upgrade to the csr shifter for £40.

Do you think it's worth getting as an upgrade for the dfgt?

I never used a dfgt. So I can't sat for sure. It was a nice wheel while I had it but after a few months I upgraded to gt2 and csp. My friend bought the carrera and pedals from me and still uses them every so often.

I did have some brake pedal issues with the Porsche pedal set but fixed that and he hasn't had any problems.

A Google search will get you info on the brake pedal problems and fixes. Its minor considering the cost of.the pedals.

I'm sure someone whonhas used both will give you some advice there, but I have a feeling some will say stick with Logitech until you can afford something higher than the carrera. IMO it is a step mostly sideways between the 2 options.

Edit : I would go with the csr pedals over standard Porsche pedals for sure. The pedals are the Porsche lines week spot. I still use the shifter, tho modded, and it's good enough for now. Waiting to see the clubsport shifter to compare with thr8.

I agree with Caz. I don't think the Carrera is a huge upgrade over the DFGT. If you get the Carrera, I think its strongest feature is its compatibility with the other Fanatec gear. The Carrera with the standard pedals is not an upgrade over the DFGT. Pair the Carrera with CSR Elite Pedals and it's a dramatic upgrade, because the pedals are that good.

Do you play at all on PC? If you do, then you can still get a set of CSR Elite Pedals and connect them via USB, while using your existing DFGT wheel.

Thanks for you opinions. Do you think fanatec could bundle the csr pedals with the carrera wheel and shifter? At a slightly higher price I guess.

Yes I do play on the pc a little, but I want to get into it with project cars and iracing now.

Just one last question, is the table clamp sturdy enough to securely hold the wheel? I can't hard mount at all unfortunately.

Sorry for the double post, but since E3 is in full flow and the Carrera is now discontinued that Fanatec will be announcing its replacement some time soon? Should I wait until that is released?

Right now I don't see any Carrera bundles. Fanatec blew them out in a package known as the Final Edition, which bundled the Carrera, the basic pedals, 6-speed shifter, and a Rennsport Wheel Stand for around $200.

The Fanatec clamp can actually work quite well as long as the surface it's on isn't too thin. The 1"-2" range seems to work best.

Thomas has said that the Carrera was one of their poorest selling models. It must be very hard to compete with the venerable Driving Force GT, which is $100 brand new. I wouldn't hold my breath for another budget wheel from them. If anything, it looks like Fanatec is focusing mostly on the higher end, where they've had the most success.

The cheapest entry point with a wheel and pedals (no stick shift) is the GT3RS CSR Elite Edition. That's a great belt driven wheel with some well-reviewed pedals, but it'll run you about $250.
