fanatec csr standard questions and issues please help

hi everyone iam new to sim racing and recently perchased a csr standard and had some concerns. first off, stright out of the box the wheel made noise when turning(even when off, and kind of sounds like a belt or motor whirr) and never snaps back to center when calibrating. it will do its full rotation to the right then go just past center and stop, untill you connect then just sort of looses tension and lazily move tward the center but never quite makes it. Is this normal? second, when driving if you turn and release the wheel out of the corner, it never tracks back to center like a real vehicle it just wobbles back and forth untill you manually stop it. this makes the car feel very awkward and hard to predict. this makes powersliding/drifting impossible:grumpy:
and finally(sorry for the long post) how the hell do you upgrade the firmware. i get to the folder and it says to select 32 or 64bit and i dont have a clue which i have. thanks

The noise is normal as its a new wheel, it will get quiter the more you use it. As for calibration my wheel doesn't always go back to centre, but it always works fine so I am assuming that's normal. As for the firmware I have never done it but I am sure some one on here can help you.

Hey dude.......welcome...First of all have you tried messing with your setting on the wheel??...The CSR is a pretty in depth piece of machinery. I run with the following settings for me but I dont drift.

Sensitivity (SEn): 270
Force feedback strength (FF): 80
Vibration strength (Sho): 100
Drift mode (dri): 5
ABS: 0
Linearity (Lin): 0
Deadzone (dEA): 0
Spring (SPr): -2
Damper (dPr):3

Also do a google search on the firmware updates..it can be kinda complicated. I havent mastered it but Im sure someone will come around and point you in the right direction...

Go to the Fanatec website and get the up to date Driver/Firmware and unzip and instal to your PC
Then plug your wheel into the PC after puting it in Bootloader mode. and Flash it

That is the basic of it..but I would first get your setting to your liking before you start to flash it..The up to date Firmware might already be on there

Not sure about the noise when turning. video link would be good.

Mine doesn't always centre exactly. but if you have access to a PC with the latest fanatec drivers you should be able to test that the wheel is centered.

I'd say yes!

This can be effected by some of the wheel settings, particularly drift another that escapes me right now :(

On the PC if you press the "windows key" and the "break" key simultaniously.

a window will pop up (the system control Panel), It should say under system control type if its a 64bit operating system. Ignore the processor type, cause you can run a 32bit system on a 64bit processor!

If it doesnt say 64bit it's 32!
note some very old version of the OS wont say 32bit cause there was no 64bit alternative at the time, if that makes sense.

So once you know the answer to 32bit or 64bit.

Follow the instructions and install the drivers.

note you need to install the standard Wheel driver, and a special bootloader mode driver that ships with the firmware update.

The instructions for doing this are in the firmware update instructions.

What should follow next is sort of like this.

Good luck and any Questions just ask

Ohh and Welcome to Forzaplanet 👍

thanks guy i apprciate the feedback and man did the new settings work. i had the force feedback too high i think, among other things, and im at least a couple seconds faster and now have good control of the car. also i think i had some connection issue with the 360 so youtube helped with that. thanks again!!

I took your setting and set up my CSR wheel accordingly. I'll let you know my thoughts. Thanks for sharing man.

I don't use wheels, but I know this much:

You need the latest firmware update to enjoy it with FM4, especially if you prefer SIM steering.
