Hello,

I am looking to buy a fanatec CSW with F1 rim.

Now i have the folowing question because i only play on PS3, NOT PC.

Can i use this wheel perfectly only using a PS3?
I heard somethimes you have to update the wheel via PC

Is this correct? Can i use it without have to connect it to a PC for updates?

Greetz

You can use it out the box on the PS3, but for any firmware update you will need a PC

Ok, but i assume to do these updates you don't need e real performant gaming pc?
Sorry for the noob questions but i don't know very much about PC's

You just need a computer with an internet connection and usb port.

That is absolutely 100% not true at all, in any way, ever, in the least.

I second that fact. :-) I use it on both the PS3 and PC and the FF is the same.

Updating the CSW is super easy and a basic PC with Internet connection is all you need.

That's great...btw I have just get onto my t500 for several months, love the wheel m gear but the pedal reli disappoint me sigh

In fact on the PS3 the the CSW will work in more games than the T500RS. Because unlike the T500RS, the CSW (and CSRE as well as older Fanatec wheel) emulates the G25/G27 wheel on the PS3 (there's no official support for Fanatec on the PS3).

A good example is SHIFT (1 or 2). EA/Slightly Mad Studio only made the games with support for the Logitech and perhaps older Thrustmaster wheels not including the T500RS. Which means yes for the CSW/CSRE but not for the T500RS which for whatever reason requires its own support in order for its FFB to work.

Other wheels that also use G25/G27 mode on the PS3 is the uber-expensive Frex Simwheel Type G (or any other Type-G components by Frex). The "G" stands for the G in the G25/G27 since the Frex went one step further (or backward depending on how you wan t to look at it) by using the electronics from the G25/G27 to drive their Simwheel. This guarantees not only support in GT5 (on the PS3) but removes them from having to develop their own PC software.

The downside to this (emulation mode) is whatever code PD might've used for the G25/G27- for example how the wheel behaves when running over a kerb or how the wheel behaves on dirt road- in order to control the rattling that's inherent in the Logitech gear driven wheel, will also be present on the CSW/CSRE. But unlike the G25/G27 (and even the Frex Simwheel), Fanatec wheels allow for better adjustment and control to its FFB (hardware as oppose to merely software driven) and thus can easily compensate for that type of attenuation.

My argument is that whereas the T500RS is fundamentally tuned by PD to maximize the integration between hardware and software in which it requires the simplest process of applying more or less FFB amount in order to get the intended effects, the CSW/CSR-E, however, requires that the users be more involved in the process. But the final outcome may not be exactly as what PD had intended. Within that argument exists other variables such as the core FFB quality between the T500RS and the CSW/CSRE. If you're less of a purist knowing that the existence of such dichotomy would be of no consequence then the CSW/CSRE would probably do a much better job.

I've also got the Fanatec CSW with F1 wheel, just wondering how I would connect an aftermarket pedal set which are USB connection so I can use in GT6 on the PS3?

Yeah depending on the the pedals you choose. There are a few folks around making adapters to use Logitech and Thrustmaster pedals with the CSW.
