I have been using a Fanatec Elite wheel for a bit over a year now and yesterday started having a problem with it.

I turned it on, all was normal until I connected to the XBox and then it started to emit a fairly loud high pitched noise seemly from the electronics. I turned it off then back on and the noise was not present but then when I connected to the XBox it was back. I tried a few times and it definitely seems to be only when connected to the XBox that it is having an issue.

Nothing had changed, the firmware has not be changed for over a year and I had been using it just the night before with no issue. Now with this high pitched noise the wheel is unusable. Still seems to work but the sound is unbearable.

In the mean time I had a PWTS setting in the closet so I swapped out the wheel so I could race but I really need to get this issue corrected with the Elite wheel. Any ideas?

If you hook it up to your PC or PS3, does it emit the same sound? Also, when you do use it on your xbox, PS3 or PC, does it still work normally?

IIRC my CSR wheel (non elite) had the same issue (noise only on 360) that was rectified by a firmware update. If everything else works fine still, I'd recommend getting the latest firmware installed from Thomas' blog.

hmmm. I was thinking about doing that. Also was thinking about updating the firmware on the PWTS to get the ACL feature on it.

Anyway I moved the Elite wheel over to the PC to try and burn the firmware on it and thought I would give it a try before I did it and it connected fine with no noise today.

Not sure what the deal is with it. I think I will mount it back on the cockpit and try a few races and see what happens.

Thanks for the info, I will try changing the firmware if it happens again.
