Hey guys, I am along time reader and first time poster. I just purchased the 911 Turbo S + Clubsport Pedal + Standard Shifter Set. I was just wanting to know about the procedure for updating the firmware. I've read a few forums saying that it can be quite tricky and that some users who have updated the firmware have had issues with their set up ie: pedals not responding, wheel not functioning properly etc.

I will only be using the wheel for Forza 3 and 4 plus GT5. So far I am quite pleased with how it works on Forza and GT but the only issue I have is that wheel wobble when going down a straight in GT5. Its not that annoying to me, I'm happy to just put up with it. I know the latest firmware can help solve this problem.

So I am just wanting to know how "risky" is it to update the firmware? Has anyone here had any issues when updating their firmware? If so, how were you able to rectify it?

Also, I've read the procedure on how to update it, if I make a mistake, is it ok to start over?

Thanks.

What firmware does the wheel currently have? Press the two lower buttons at the 9 o'clock position at the same time after turning the wheel on.....this will display the firmware and is also used to turn the fans on/off.

Firmware updates are quite simple to do IMO. When you download the zip file containing the firmware it comes with a document that explains how to do the update step by step. I think most people that have issues didn't read the instructions well enough or rushed through the process. Read the manual a couple times and understand it before you start and take your time.

Here's a link to the last firmware for the turbo s

Yeah I just checked it is well out of date (613). I thought the problem may have just been people not reading the instructions properly but I thought I'd better ask the question first. Thanks for your reply.

Take your time and all will be fine. I did firmware swaps about 6 times last week on a Fanatec CSR I was testing beta firmware on and I've done it every time a new firmware came out for the PWTS I own as well and never had a problem.

681 will add a lot of features that are useful and lacking with dinosaur 613.

Don't expect the firmware to fix the wheel wobble issue mate.

Also don't run with drift settings as that can magnify the effect.

i would have thought fanatec or even a fan would do a fools gude video on this. have they???

The folder the firmware is packaged in comes with a Word document that has clear word by word instructions along with screen grabs to walk you through it.

Yes it will. The newer firmware allows him to dial in deadzone which absolutely gets rid of the speed wobble on straights in GT5. Dialing in 10-30 will get rid of it.

I'm considering the future purchase of a new wheel basically a Fanatech or Logitech G27.
I wasn't aware about this wooble thing so I searched on yt and:
Not working properly with GT5 is not good advertisement for them,
not at all. I hope updating the firmware will get rid of this s#!'I'.
But I wont believe them I want proofs.

Do you spend a lot of time sitting parked with your brake depressed and your hands not on the wheel? I'm not sure why that video is evidence of much issue. :)

Every wheel with the sensor mounted to the motor wobbles cause of slack in the transmission of the power to the wheel. Never saw it happen standing still though, that is weird.
In CARS my T500 RS even wobbles like crazy while driving and having deadzone to 0%. Good thing it's nothing as crazy as this. Lol

If it wobbles than the either the game settings are wrong or the wheel settings are (deadzone settings in particular)

I had a G25 and it wobbled like crazy in GT5 prologue ( I sold it before GT5 came out) The Fanatec can wobble more than the G25 given equal settings but the "fault" is the the fact the Fanatec has better sensitivity than the Logitech.

This video below is by Thomas of Fanatec where he demonstrates this issue in GT5 prologue and shows how the deadzone adjustment alleviates it. Scroll to the 3:40 mark to go right to that section:

I've used my PWTS and CSR and wheel wobble was never an issue I couldn't tune out with minimal effort.

Here's a quick vid I made that shows it on my CSR. Forgive the quality

My CSR wheel doesn't wobble at all in Forza 4. Am I missing something ?

No. Forza has default deadzone already set in the controller settings for wheels and controllers. It can be tweaked as well. GT5 has controller sensitivity settings but no dead zone tweaks as far as I recall.]

I'm not sure about your post at all. The point is I saw something that doesn't make me immediately want to drop 400bucks for a Fanatech wheel + pedals.

Thanks I hope this video will help some people here to better understand how it works, and how to "fix" it. In wheel settings are not that as easy as they seems. Do you know if Fanatech has made a good preset to start with in Gt5? All these settings remind me the old synthatizers from the 80's, you can make very cool sounds with, but you need spending lot of time on practice first.

I learned a new word, thanks Spag.

Edit.

Er actually just to cut short any confusion.
Pants is a derogatory remark made against any situation, circumstance or feelings you may have to a subject.

It is not, as our American cousins call them trousers.

Where I'm from they are undergarments.
Also known as skids, gruds, knickers, pants and if brave enough to go bareback ( not wear any ) going commando.

Cheers.
