Hey Guys, I just found out that Fanatec have a new PC driver for all wheels released today. Here's the list of changes:

1. FFB damper effect now available (and reimplemented, from SW -> HW)
2. FFB damper and spring effects now could be played simultaneously (due to layering in HW)
3. Auto-center spring disabled completely from driver and property sheet (for all wheel models)
4. Diagonal D-pad arrows hidden for CSR and CSR-E models

Here's the Link(both 32bit and 64bit available):

Wasn't that driver for CSP's as well? Oh well... i'll install it anyway. It won't matter much either way as 5.3MB isn't much, plus the drivers haven't changed for the CSP anyway.

I was hoping for auto clutch.

Autoclutch is firmware related, not driver related.

Firmware = Software installed on the device. This software drives the motors in the wheel as well as listens to input of the user. If there are customization options like force feedback settings or ACL it will also take care of this.

Driver = Software installed on your PC so it can interact (properly) with the firmware. By receiving the information and be able to read it and translate it to a language the computer can understand. As well as send data to the wheel in a language that the wheel's firmware can understand.

So, does anyone know where I'm supposed to download this driver to? Is this the USB driver, and is this the driver for PC connection, or a driver for PC gaming only... confused?

Hi, if anyone has already any experiment with the new driver (specially with GT2 wheel + win7 64bit + iRacing) please let me know what is better or worse now in the feeling of driving. Thx!

I'd also like to know this! :)

I installed it last night on my Windows 7 64bit PC and had a run on RSRBR12 and I think it has improved the feeling on the wheel, it feels move firm...

The driver is on the blog. Plus it's a driver for everything. Plus there doesn't exist a driver for a connection and 'pc gaming?' as this would be weird. The driver is there so your game can interact with your wheel.

This is how the connection goes, it's two way. (actually I am missing a few points, but then I would make it complicated again. lol)

Game <-> Windows Directx (DirectInput part of DirectX) <-> Fanatec Driver <-> Fanatec device(s).

Thanks for clarifying, but there are indeed multiple drivers for each wheel. one is the update port driver, thats this one? how would a different update driver matter if the firmware driving the wheel is the same- i'm sorry i know everyone is rolling their eyes at how stupid that sounds but i still dont get the point of a new update port driver... unless its more than just a driver used to communicate between the updater program and the wheel when the wheel is connected in bootloader mode.

Even Apple does this with their iPhone, or at least did before the time that you could update directly on the device. I will explain why.

Devices these days have bootloaders installed. A bootloader is the software that starts the OS (Operating System) with certain parameters. It's called bootloader as it kicks off the loading process of the OS.

For example: With Windows you can start normally without doing anything, but you can also hit F8 on your keyboard before the Windows logo appears on boot or start of your computer. And then you get a menu with options like "Safe Mode". This is actually an options menu build into the bootloader.

Now in case of a driver. A driver is also a bit of software that holds some loading parameters for the bootloader. With some devices you need to hold certain buttons before connecting it to load the special parameters in the bootloader on the wheel, with the special parameters that let's it start up in such a way that it's ready to receive an update and doesn't load unnecessary things that it needs to overwrite. Also it will send a special signal to the computer that then decides to use the update driver as it is most suitable. So instead of telling the computer 'I am the "CSR Elite"' now it tells it 'I am the "CSR Elite Update"'. Another option is that this driver is loaded not via buttons that activate the special loading parameters of the device, but instead an update program sends a reboot signal with a special 'update' parameter so it starts in update mode. It then gets recognized by the computer and same as above. After which of course the update process often starts.

I hope this makes that a bit more clear. :)

Yes very much so thank you. i have to subscribe to this so i dont loose this info. i got confused by someone saying that their wheel felt better after they loaded this new driver, that cant be acurate as the driver does not affect anything gameplay wise, you're saying its a preloaded program assistant that helps the wheel select the appropriate mode the wheel boots itself in based on a simple button command sequence at a specific time that can also select what mode it chooses to receive updates. so after the wheel has booted and the someone is using it to play a game or has just finished updating the firmware the driver has no function and remains idle until the bootup process begins again

Yea and no. You all notice the boot up sequence because of the calibration process for instance.

So a driver can have two jobs. One being that it supports a reboot command into update mode that it gives to the bootloader in the firmware of the wheel. Another is it supporting certain communication skills as you will to properly translate anything going to and from the wheel. So the driver needs to interpret well enough what the game is saying and needs to translate that into a sequence of actions the firmware is familiar with. So a new driver can help improve FFB by doing a better translation. While a new firmware can as well since the corresponding actions are better tuned if you will or have more sub options for actions which the driver can decide to activate to further refine a feeling.

So, is here anybody who can feel any difference between the 115 and 116 driver? Personally, I don't feel any difference on PC with iRacing, but can't tell anything about console games.

It's a driver, mate. Not firmware. So it won't influence consoles.
