Since the "chopsticks" mounting design allows so much flex with the stick shifters (sequential or H pattern), most people I know don't use them. If the mounting were better, would you use them?

Any feedback is welcome! Thanks.

You forgot one option.

I use them and they are mounted properly. They sell the adapter for their wheelstand that lets you mount them properly to something besides the wheel. It makes them as solid as the surface you mount them to. You don't have to use the sticks that come with the wheel, that's just a nice last resort if you have nothing else to mount them to.

I currently use the paddle shifters on the GT3 RS v2 along with clubsport pedals. When Fanatec releases a clubsport caliber shifter I will purchase and use it. Until then, its paddles.

Or you can use the chopstick in addition to having a platform that supports the bottom of the shifter assembly. Bad poll.

Mine is properly mounted and I still dont use it(check sig) . Come on Fanatec, Im dying for the Clubsport Shifter 👍

Get a longer PS/2 cable and mount them however/wherever you want. That's what I did. Solid as a rock. I didn't even bother to try to system that came with it because it looked so crappy...

I mounted my 6-speed shifter lower with a long PS/2 cable & some bolts in my desk, and then mounted the sequential on the "chopsticks". I can easily switch shifters to suit the car (though I can't right now since my 6-speed seems to have broken)

Where is the "I know how to build a cockpit that works with the Fanatec mounting system and use my H Gate every time."?

I use shifter/paddles depending on race track and car. I find it more fun to use the shifter but am not as fast as with the paddles (obv).

Having the proper mounting and position is key to success if you truly want to use the shifter.

I never had an issue using the chopsticks. As long as the shifter base is pushed against whatever surface the wheel is mounted to, they don't move THAT much. Certainly not enough for me to go without.

Worst part of it is that it sounds like hammering nails when shifting.

That can be fixed. Just search Fanatec Shifter Silent Mod. Makes the noise acceptable. Doesnt fix the shifting though as its still mushy, imprecise and flimsy :(

The Fanatec shifter is what kept me from buying a Fanatec wheel in the first place, so no. But the Clubsport Shifter might be a ultimate do-over!

I use the 6 speed on mine. Of course I have it mounted to my rig. But it makes all the difference to me.

The chop sticks is fine in my experience. Sure it's not on your lower side...but it's slightly lower than the wheel base so it feels a little more natural, plus when you're racing you don't notice it flop much at all.

Your only other alternative is one the logitech wheels, and their shifter is worse then fanatec's. I really don't think the fanatec shifter is that bad. It's much better then the G25 shifter. At least fanatec's has some resistance and fell to it.

Well, being a G27 owner I feel fortunate that you're wrong and I like the G27 shifter. Fanatec will get another chance with me, but it'll be nice to see them release a better shifter with decent mounting options.

ive seen this argued a bunch. ive never tried the fanatec but the g25 and g27 are ok. the g27 is way better than g25. from what i understand, the fanatec feels better but sounds terrible than the g27. i could deal with that but at this point ill wait for a clubsport, like most everyone else.

Agreed, the G25 shifter was ambitious, but ultimately a fail. The G27 loses a feature but makes up for it in feel and durability. I'm pretty much gonna pick up a GT2 alone, use paddles and G27 pedals, and then Clubsport it out when the shifter drops, as long as I like it better than the G27... which at that point I'll probably give someone a smoking deal on it, and call it good. At least, that's the plan!

I haven't tried the G27. I had a G25 and that shifter left alot to be desired. It had no feel at all to it. It just slid through the gears without any resistance. I like the feel of the fanatec shifter better then it, but like I said I haven't tried the G27's so I can't comment on it.
Have you tried a Fanatec shifter, or are you just going by what other people have said about it?

I don't know why people are complaining about the mounting options of the fanatec shifter. It mounts just fine to anything you want, just by drilling a few holes. It takes literally less then 5 minutes to mount, if you buy the adapter. The small poles that come with the adapter work great. It makes it really easy to swap out the shifters and you don't feel it move at all while using it.

I think the OP must not know that you don't have to mount the shifter to the wheel or something. It mounts just fine and is very usable. Not so much in GT5 because of the kicking the car into N, but for forza 3, shift, and any other game that uses the clutch and shifter, it works very well.

It doesn't feel like a real car, but no sim shifter ever will, but when I'm playing games though, I almost can't tell a difference.

As far as me being wrong. This is the internet, everyone is wrong.

Sorry Bevo, that kinda came off wrong... please don't sweat it. I'm wrong several times a day... seriously, ask my wife!

And honestly, no, I've never gotten to use a Fanatec shifter. In gameplay, I'm sure the Fanatec shifter works just fine. And I agree, until some company or someone makes a "full size" sim shifter no matter how much you spend it'll never feel anything like the real thing. When it was time for me to upgrade from my DFP it was either gonna be G27 or GT3RSv2, and the DESIRE to have a H shifter made the shifter a BIG factor for me and the lack of mounting options on the Fanatec shifter was a real issue.

BUT... my intention is not to badmouth Fanatec's shifter or anyone who uses and enjoys their Fanatec gear. I simply wanted to also state that the Fanatec shifter's issues was a major factor in my NOT buying a Fanatec wheel, and hope that they can come up with a better unit in the future. I have great faith that the Clubsport Shifter will be a real nice piece of gear, hopefully a game changer.

Your poll is missing the most important option. "I have the proper shifter mount and there is no flex" . Without that choice your poll is completely biased.

Ill throw my 2cents about the shifters. My previous wheel was a G27. I now have a GT3RSv2 CSP and the shifter. The first few races with the new shifter were ok. It was louder then the Logitech but seemed to function fine. The more I used it(same day) the more I started to dislike the fragile and uncertain shifting feel and I really started to miss the G27 shifter. The feel is just less fragile and the shifting feels more confident. The fanatec also has a certain mushyness the the logitech doesnt share. I have since done the silent mod and tried various things to help with the feel of the Fanatec shifter but nothing really seems to help. Im not really knocking Fanatec. The shifter is perfectly functional but this particular component of their excellent hardware package IMO is not on the same level as their wheels and pedals(CSP's) and I just personally find no joy in using it. Logitechs G27 shifter, while not leagues better, was more enjoyable.
