Ok so I ordered the standard pedals and are awaiting their arrival.

I have read a little bit around about how the pedometers eventually come out of place after use causing some random braking in game.

So when I get mine, prior to even using them I'm going to zip tie then DOUSE them with epoxy to make sure they never move again, ever.

Any tips on what you guys have tried or how long someone has had a set last so far with no issues?

I have a set that I am using. I have had some issues but I think I am good to go at this point. The Potentiometers for both the throttle and the brake were loose from day one. It was a while before I noticed this as I was playing Forza 3 and it does not have the little throttle and brake indicators on screen. I could feel the brake come on sometimes but using the deadzone adjustment in Forza was able to overcome this issue initially. Then I noticed I was not going as fast as others in the same car. Turns out I was only getting 95% throttle at times. Used the deadzone adjustments in game to correct this as well.

In GT5 no dead zone adjustments and the little bar graphs on screen made it clear that something was wrong. I took them apart and re-assembled them and they worked fine for a few days then the brake started to act up again. I took them apart again and this time made very sure to get the pots firmly seated into the pedl and firmly snapped into the base. So far they are working perfectly better than at any point so far. Only time will tell.

The base is difficult to assemble without these things moving around on you. I would suggest that you make sure you have a quick grip or two on hand to aid in the assembly as the spring on the brake is pretty strong and makes if difficult without something to hold things together other than your hands.

Having just taken apart my pedals yesterday with the intention of zip tying or epoxying them, let me tell you it would be very difficult to do and still be able to reassemble the pedals due to the way the plastic top cover is designed.

Agreed. I think a good solution would be, and I intend to try it should they come loose again, using some RTV silicone in the base under the mount then reassemle carefully and let them sit for at least 24 hours before use [good time to let Bob run that Lemans endurance race] I would use the silicone because it holds well. Is non conductive and can be removed if need be.

Edit: btw it would be so much easier if the top part of the peddles were detachable from the shaft allowing you to put everything in place and then slide on the cover. As is it is pretty difficult to get this back togehter properly which is likely why people are having issues.

Never drive with shoes on. All ways in socks, or bare if thats how you roll. Mine lasted about a year before the sensors got jacked up. But as awesome as Fanatec is they are replacing them, probably will upgrade to the CSP.

By the sound of things here, I will probably try some silicone, thought of that before but epoxy just sounds so much more serious. I'll probably take pics and post them back here when I decide to mod them.

Well it looks like I spoke to soon. Was in the middle of the dream car race when I posted. Began the race on Lemans and the car would not move. Steering worked no gas no brake. I reset the wheel but nothing. Ended up driving the race with the controller which btw was not mapped properly :( still managed to win and was enough to win overall so I exited the last event and restarted but still nothing from the pedals.

I hooked the wheel to the PC and tested it. everything works except the pedals all three are dead. Checked connections, unplugged the wheel and reset a few times, reburned firmware 678 and 681 same result each time. Tryed on XBox as well same result. So now I am back to the DFGT and will be taking these things apart once again :(

It is a great wheel but I have had a lot of issues with these pedals already not sure I could recomend this wheel to anyone now. The DFGT is not as nice a wheel but it is cheap and it works damn good.

I would have ordered the club sport pedals, but I did not have the budget for both the wheel and CSP. So I went with the standard pedals. Plus Fanatec is offering a discount for those with faulty standard pedals to upgrade to the CSP, so that's what I'm banking on if mine go.

As for the standard pedal issue, there's apparently two things that can go wrong.

1. The sensors come loose and are inaccurate after.

2. The cables to each sensor are wound too tight and cause the solder to break and a short, so you can actually unwind the cables and re-solder them stronger to fix that issue.

I felt confident with these pedals because both of these issues I can fix, I like to tweak things out.
And if it doesn't work out for me I will just order the discounted CSP.

hmmm Discount ... I am tempted but a bit skeptical after seeing the quality of the assembly on the wheel and pedals I have now.

What wheel do you have? The CSP are epic pedals, one of the best ones out there. You won't be sorry.

pedals3z98.jpg

I have the PWTS. I like the standard pedals just fine if only they would work properly for more than a few days.

I'll be watching the CSP for a price drop and jump on the deal.

So the final jurisdiction is... that they're unreliable, right?

If so, that sucks. It was the only cheap wheel with clutch and H-Gate.

Apparently, yes.

Although Fanatec will ship you out a replacement or give you a discount on the CSP's.

Well, funny that it happened this way but due to some extra $$ I was able to upgrade to the club sports before I ever even got my standard pedals :D

Why not the clubsports ?!?! Damn man the clubsports are the BEST pedals out there for that money !! Nothing beats it for that price and what you get.

That's what I just got. Should get them this week.

It turned out that the standard pedals were out of stock and back-ordered so I would have gotten my wheel this week and no pedals!! So I had them upgrade me to the clubsports provided they could ship with my wheel.

done.

Fanatec is shipping me a new set of Standards now to replace the ones I got originally. They offered me a $50 discount on the Club Sports with free shipping as an option. I was tempted but at this point I am a bit to skeptical to lay out another $150.

From what I understand, the club sports are bulletproof.
The build quality is certainly there, as well as the contact-less sensors, in theory it should be very durable.

I picked up some G25 pedals in ebay having read about the problems with the std Fanatec ones, i want the CSP and will upgrade to them but i wanted the GT2 and stand so had to hold off on the CSP for a while!

I paid less for the G25 pedals than the std fanatecs too so would recommend this way to save some cash.

I just upgraded to the Clubsports after my standard pedals were doing the EXACT same thing as everyone else as far as the brakes were concerned.

The Clubsports really are a work of art. I wish i could put them in my Jetta they're so nice. I'll definitely need to buy the adjustment kit for it as the brake pedal is much softer than the standard pedals, and there's alot more travel.

Otherwise, they feel amazing. You definitely have to wear socks, though. The metal is ICE cold. :D

Ive had very similar problems. And the support really sucks. Here are some of the
emails Ive sent and support has replyed to:

Subject: Petal Set Not Working After Being Replaced for the Third Time!!! And H Shifter Just Broke As Well.

Message: Hello,
My third pedal set after 3 days is still exhibiting the same problem as the 2 pedal sets previously replaced. This time its only happened after 3 days of usage. It does not really stand to reason that there is a problem with the pedals at this point. What they all have in common is the wheel. I don\'t want to receive a new pedal set just to have the same problem occur after 3 days again. I think it is a problem with the wheel itself as all three pedals exhibit the same behavior. I\'m really getting tired of this as I have not been able to use the product that I bought from you after I received it. On top of all of this my H-pattern shifter has snapped off. Can you please at this point replace both the pedal and the wheel so I can rule out the wheel as the source of the problem. Please help me out with this because I am extremely frustrated at this point. I have spent a lot of money with your company and I know your product is supposed to be top notch. It is well spoken of nearly everywhere. This is just not been my experience and I really look forward to getting on with enjoying the product that I paid for over a year ago. If you need a video, I can give you one of the the shifter and pedal problem.

"Hi,

Thank you very much for your message. I am sorry that you experienced problems with our product and I hope we can solve it soon. First I need to know what kind of problem occurs. Is it always the same problem and what exactly isn't working? A video would be very helpful, also I need a photo of the H-shifter to arrange a replacement".

My Petal Set is not working. The brake never reaches full pressure and is erratic. Whenever I depress the throttle the brakes also kick in, so I never reach full acceleration. This also happens with the clutch. When I unplug and replug the petal set from the wheel it helps a little. Then over the course of a few minutes it happens again. This happens in all the sims I own. Forza 3, Iracing, GTR 2, Race On, etc. I also have problems with the wheel. I get force feedback dropouts a couple of minutes after playing various sims. Also after playing for a while the wheel will sometimes turn to the left or right (I can't remember which)and stop responding until I restart it. Needless to say the wheel and petal as it is useless to me at the moment. The Model I have is the 911 Turbo S Wheel and petal set.

Hi,

Thank’s to your detailed description/video I am already sure that you will need a replacement. To speed things up we will send you a new set without waiting for any return right now. Please fill out the following support form and copy&paste your problem description + the serial number of the pedals (you can find it on the base). Also mention that I suggested to send you a new pedal set (important!!). Then you will then receive no further questions of our office ;-) Thank you!

I case you want to upgrade to the ClubSport pedals please also write down that I offered a refund of the full retail price of the standard pedals.

About the wheel. Could you open it please? Right now I do think that it is just a problem with a fan and this would be quite easy to exchange. Of course you will not void warranty in any way. If you agree, I could send you a short manual how to open it the fastest way. Thank you!

Hello Armin,

I am now having the same problems with my new pedal set. At first it worked perfectly and gradually the gas and break is showing the same behaviour as before. This is really disconcerting as I would just like to get on with simracing and I once again can not use my petals. I have also read about other people on your forum going through 3 to 4 defective petal sets. Please I just want a set that works.

Hello,

Thank you very much for your message. Because its your third pedal set we need to know if the wheel isn’t damaged. Do you have any other pedals from the G25 or G27? If the wheel is fine, we can offer you a big refund on a upgrade to the clubsport pedals.

Hello Daniel,

No unfortunately no other pedals. But, I am sure its the wheel because its very unlikely that three different petals would show the exact same problem in the exact same way within the exact same timeframe. What they all have in common is the wheel. So I would really like to have it as well as the petals replaced at this point.

Thank you very much for your message. Please make a photo of the H Shifter. If you have really no chance of getting another pedals, maybe a friend or a neighbor, we need to send the pedals to Steve. He will check the pedals and if they got a failure we offer you a upgrade to club sport pedals for only 100$.

BTW, did more research and it seems this standard pedal problem is quite wide spread. And your support department reaction to this very wide spread problem seem to be standardized.Emails requesting help and support go unanswered and people are swindled into paying for the more expensive Club Sport Petals. Nice racket you guy got there.

The standard petals are fundamental flawed and you guy know this. The Potentiometers seem to be at the root of the problem as illustrated here: https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?t=152074 and here: http://www.911wheel.de/?q=node/4045 and here: http://insidesimracing.tv/forums/viewtopic.php?f=108&t=3229 .

Your company is knowingly selling people a defective product and that is just plain wrong. I dont have the technical know how the fix the problem my self and dont have the money to the buy the club sports so where does that leave me ? Will you guy keep sending me flawed, broken standard pedals that fail after 3 day to a week until my warranty is up at the end of the year ? Will you screw me like that ?

Ive been very patient for a year dealing with this so please do the honorable thing and properly take care of your customers.

As another to recently join to the ranks of the bunk pedal victims, I believe that a suspension of sales of new pedals is required. A recall is a big and sometimes unnecessary ordeal for any company, especially one that is as small as Endor/Fanatec. However, they might take on a better public view, in my opinion, if they cease sales of the standard pedals until an acceptable solution has been found. As I had told the support representative in the last email I sent, I would really like to have the Club Sport pedals, but simply cannot afford them at this time. I have a 2 year old and I am now a full time student - all living under my wife's income at the moment, so plunking down $200 for another video game controller (which I already have a great one in the Carrera wheel and standard pedals) is absolutely out of the question. The "discount" of $50 (the purchase price of a standard set of pedals) is a very weak attempt at resolving the issue in my opinion. I have something I just bought that has begun to malfunction and the only course of action is to spend more money with that very company for a "higher-end" pedal set? That is simply ridiculous.

I've seen the speculation among forumites that Fanatec is attempting to move away from the "budget" wheel market, and are interested in phasing out the standard pedals. Seeing as how the Carrera wheel and pedal set were introduced not that long ago (as direct competition with the Logitech Driving Force GT), I do not see them dropping out of that price point any time soon. There is a big market for the "budget" wheels, and even more so in an economy like many are facing. Quite simply: not everyone can/wants to shell out $350 for a game controller/toy.

I'm a bit peeved that I didn't do a ton of research on the standard pedals prior to buying the wheel. Had I done so, I may have looked elsewhere for a wheel and pedal set. I've heard nothing but great things about the wheel and shifter, and having owned one myself now for a while, can agree with every positive review I've read. The pedal issue just plain sucks - there is simply no other way to say it. In response to the painfully annoying question I see so often, "what did you expect for a $170 wheel/pedal set?" My answer: I expect it to work. I only paid $120 for a Driving Force GT a little over a year ago and it still works fine to this day. My Dad has had a fully functional Logitech MOMO racing wheel and pedal set for well over 3 years - one which he paid a little over $120 for. There are the obvious signs of wear from extensive use (he's retired, so he's become quite the gamer these past few years), but the brake pedal isn't twitching and shutting off intermittently like my relatively new Porsche wheel.

So far, the customer support (damage control) has been great. I've received polite and informative responses with 24 hours of sending, and already have a replacement on the way (the support ticket was submitted yesterday). So, I cannot complain about their lack of interest in helping after the sale. I can, however complain (as many others have) about their prevention of such issues.

According to a few posts from members on Fanatec's 911 Wheel Club forums, this issue has been resolved with a redesign of the pedals/sensors. I guess I will find out for sure once I've received my replacement pedals.
