I'd like to offer my sincere thanks to Jordan for letting me post this...

Last year some GTP regulars played my Fantasy F1 game, the third annual running of the competition. This year the competition's back, and it's better than ever.

For a start, last year's contest was ruined by a certain driver. Well, I have rather more power to do something about this than the FIA, and so I have simply priced Michael Schumacher out of the market, so you're going to have to think about your team. I know, I know, it's disappointing, but since he scored 200 points more than his nearest rival last year, I felt it was better to take him out of the picture rather than have everyone adopt last year's winning strategy.

All you need to do is pick two main drivers, a test driver, a chassis, engine and set of tyres, all for a value of $60m or less, and away you go!

There are some new features to the game too, which will hopefully enhance your gaming pleasure, and there's an exciting new element called Backed-Teams, which allows you to place a small wager on your team if you wish. But don't worry - the main part of the contest is free to enter.

So, come to the site, and play this year. I've worked hard to fix some of last year's faults, and to make the contest a little less rough around the edges. You have until March 6th to enter your team, so give it a go!

looks fun. I will probably join. Im going through reading the rules now. they are pretty coplicated.

I have a few questions. for tire manufacturers. do you just score the points for the highest finisher? or for all drivers within 10th place. if the case is this, michelin would probably have an advantage. i guess that is why they cost more.

I also dont completely understand test drivers. Would I buy a test driver with the hope he will take over for a regular driver part way through the season? if that were true sato and maybe mcnish would be the only testers of any value. I couldnt see any drivers of other series crossing over. that is ludicrious.

a few other things. renault and toyota seem to be underated in all parts of the shopping list. renault are expected by most to finish amongst the top 3 this year. and I think toyota could finish in the top 6 or 7. myself along with others think they could be of great value. maybe you priced teams based on last years performances, that would make sense.

looks great!! im not trying to criticize anything you have done. i look forward to having fun with this throughout the season. i found these fantasy leagues add depth to spectator sports. fantasy football has been really fun for me.

Made in Holland: Thanks. I guess you'll be picking Jos!

AdvanR: The prices reflect how I think that the season will got. I set them along with my wife (who, although she doesn't know as much as I do about F1, has an understanding of it that often offers insight), and we used what we know about the sport to make the call. If you think an item is underpriced, then perhaps you should consider it to be a bargain and thus worth picking in a points per $1m reckoning.

On the test drivers, yes, there are a number of drivers of varying likelihood to be picked for a race seat in the event of an established star being replaced through injury or inability. You have to choose one of them, so you must consider how likely it is that any team may replace its drivers, and how likely it is for any given person in the Testers roster to be picked as a replacement. You'll note that there's a mixture of youth and experience across a bunch of different formulae.

thanks. what about tires?

I have played fantasy football for a few years and it basically boils down to who has the most potential in the beginning of the year to provide the best "value/predicted round picked". I guess most fantasy games are like this. I will definately think about toyota and renault, because I think they will have very good years. toyota will have more room to improve because they finished 10th or 11th last year. It was said that if they had better drivers last year they couldve been almost a second faster at most races. that is alot. and now in testing, olivier looks to be getting very good times with the cars. I think they will finish around sixth. that is a huge improvement.

All of the top ten finishing cars score for their respective tyre manufacturer, not just the first car home.

Bridgestone scores most of its points with Ferrari.

And i think Michelin will get better and better, partially because they receive alot of valuable info from WRC, where Michelin provides all the teams except Subaru.

I wouldn't have said that knowledge gained in WRC translates to F1. I won't comment too much on my reasoning in pricing last year, but Michelin did outscore Bridgestone over the 2002 season.

You people who're under budget simply haven't put enough thought into your team. I finished exactly at $62m... which made me trim and trim before getting it back to $60m.

It was pretty tough getting under the $60 million budget - man, talk about midfield mediocrity.

This year, I'll either be a genius, or (more likely) a disastrous failure.

Driver A Jarno Trulli
Driver B Fernando Alonso
Test Driver Alexander Wurz
Chassis Renault
Engine Ford
Tyres Michelin

That happened with me last year!

Man, I couldn't find my name at first...because I scrolled down immediately...oops!

Alonso brought home the bacon!

Again Giles your Fantasy F1 has amazed me. Last year was my first time ever particpating and it was really enjoyable. I cannot wait for this years season to unfold. Keep up the good work

Ha ha, I'm still boycotting speed channel and haven't followed f1 much at all and i am ahead, albeit it's early, and all based on impressions from a few years ago and the cost limitation of giles' series.
