Am I the only one who tries hard to like Far Cry 2 but just......cant? Don't know what it is but I just can't seem to get into it at all. Everything about it screams of quality and brilliance but my main gripe is that just about everybody you see tries to kill you, which is a real pain. And they just keep bloody respawning at guard posts etc.
I like to complete a game, so I spend time looking for all the safe houses/guard posts/settlements etc. But I will spend ages taking out all the enemies at these places, then drive away, come back a few minutes later and find that the same enemies have returned! A great game ruined by a serious design flaw by Ubisoft methinks.

i think the same, the game it's incredible, but the missions are boring and all the same, and it's tiring that you can't drive your jeep without someone shooting at you in every crossroad

This game was the biggest disappointment for me. It's nothing at all like the first game, except for maybe the scale of the map and graphics.

Every time I drove through village some people start shooting at me ... AND I KILLED THEM ALREADY!

And I have to drive to the other side of the map for every single mission.

HUGE disappointment!

Awesome graphics and sweet game for about the first two hours until you realize that it takes all day to get somewhere, and you usually die a million times trying to get there.

Trying to use a car doesn't help much as you have to get out and repair it every five minutes while getting shot up at the respawning guard posts which are EVERYWHERE.

Yeah, I traded this one back in pretty quickly.

Hate it. too repetitive and the missions were boring and much too long. That and the hatred of any AI that felt the need to want to blow my head off all the time.

I like how the plot unfolds at the end, did not see that coming. The game is good but its a poor design choice to have the AI re spawn without reloading the game AND traveling is a pain but thats what makes the game so long. Took me around 25 hours to beat the main story. But the game is over after that and that stinks if you want to get all the single player trophies.

I gave it a 7.9

I agree with all said above, really irritating that everyone shoots at your, for seemingly no reason at all initially. Then just keep coming regardless of what you have done. Didnt get the end, I just couldnt hack it. They should have spent more time fixing it than making sure the trees grow back after being shot..

I feel like I just can't get into bioshock, as much as I want to find out how the story rolls out, I just can't really get into a bioshock mood.
Ive never played far cry 2, but I have always wanted to.

I liked this game. The respawning was a bit meh, but the missions and locations were entertaining. And lighting up the plains to flush out the enemy was a very cool addition. I hated that NPC that always got himself into trouble though, nearly killed him myself because I was so annoyed by it. ;)

Hate it, it was on offer and very cheap but still a waste of money. Just goes to show that pretty doesn't always equal fun.

I gave up at the first big daddy, i could not beat it and did not want to start over for the third time on a lower difficulty.

All waht is said above.

The respawning enemies are bitchy to say at least, but what really cripled the game for me was that (like said above)
for a mission you had to travel the whole map. How stupid is that! just to lenghten the game.

Otherwise it would have been a cool game for 20€.
Sorry a 2009? game with HD graphics a huge sandbox map and 3.5 Gb, that says it all. Everywhere the same texture.

Only good thing is the editor.

Far Cry 2 was a massive disappointment. Especially the campaign. I also want to not that it had THE worst voice acting in any game I have ever played. The save points sucked, the ruberband AI that magically caught right up to you sucked. And so much more about the game was terrible. The lack of color in Africa also turned me off from the game. I also hated how the AI could ALWAYS see you no matter how hard you tried to sneak around. One of the most disappointing games on the 360. The fire propagation was cool and thats about it. The multiplayer was decent for a couple weeks but the campaign was just terrible.

Beating the Big Daddies at first is difficult, but not impossible, and is essential if you want Adam to build up your character. It's lik FF in a way that the more you kill, the more you get, and the more powerful you become. You can return to earlier levels later on in the game and get anything you missed. But this thread is for FarCry 2 - and Bioshock is a FAR superior game. Stick with it, because the plot twist at the end is legendary. Nobody seen that coming.

Yeah that's another big flaw. In this day and age where most games of this type allow you to save wherever you are, why do you have to find a sodding safe house? Great graphics, huge play area, but dated game design. Ubisoft should have sorted this out before release. Am seriously considering trading this one in. Three times I have tried to get into it, but get pissed off eventually, and at over 3GB save space, not worth it.

Yup I love to explore and just go wherever I want in a game. But if you did that in Far Cry 2 you took the risk of dying from the rediculous AI. So it got to the point where I would just go safe house to safe house and thats it just to get close to the next objective. That way if I died I wouldnt have to redo everything. Far Cry 2 really needed a "save anywhere" option or at least a much better save system. THAT truly ruined the game.
I traded Far Cry 2 in a long time ago. On a side note, I still have the original Far Cry for the PC and still love it. Much better game and so beautiful too. I actually posted pics in the Far Cry thread. https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?t=80113&highlight=pics Which reminds me, I still never finished the original Far Cry yet. I almost never my PC.

Who developed the original? It wasnt Ubisoft was it?

I think it was Crytek.

Yeah that figures. A quality dev team. No wonder the original is supposedly better. Ubisoft's shooters just seem so rough around the edges. What we should have got was a PS3 update of the original, not the mess that was FC2. Cant understand why most magazines gave it 9/10.

If you have not played the original Far Cry on the PC then you really should try it out. 👍

I only have a laptop, and a limited one at that. Dont think it'd be powerful enough to run games like Far Cry. Was it out on 360?

Yes it also came out on the xbox then came out on the 360. The console versions were very linear and a different story. I dont even think you could hardly go off the path at all in the console versions. The PC version was wide open. The only great thing about the consoles was the ease of the map editor. Easily the most user friendly map editors to this day.

It's interesting that Ubisoft were quoted as saying that they "want Far Cry 2 to be the setting standard for all free-roaming FPS shooters". Hah! If that was the case Id never buy another one again.

Yeah no kidding. The standard was set when Crackdown, Saints Row 2, and Just Cause 2 came out. Now those are epic sandbox games.

Havent played Crackdown or Saints Row 2, but own Just Cause 2 and enjoying it a lot. Possibly the biggest game map seen on a console game? The missions may be repetitive but I dont think Ive played a more enjoyable game for simply charging about blowing stuff up, and that's what counts - fun. Finding new ways to use the grapple hook is a blast. And there's loads to find too.
