So I bought Far Cry 3 a month or so after it was out. Read the reviews, and it seemed amazing really, decided I just had to add it to my picky game collection.

Completed it to a 100% yesterday and I do have some opinions of my own that don't seem to be common to any reviews I've read online.
First and foremost I have to say, UBISOFT have created a masterpiece of an island. One can simply stand on a high cliff, and admire the sun rise and set over the ocean. The missions are really fun, the plot pretty good. However, somehow, after finishing off the story I wasn't left with that feeling saying "Wow, that was incredible. I need to go back and play it again", a feeling I get from most of the games i've played like Red Dead Redemption, GTA 4 , Max Payne 3 and so on. It didn't really leave that sort of impact on me. Though the antagonist, Vaas Montenegro was spectacular. One of the best game villains I have come across.

Also, the game had been advertised saying " Insane Jungle", "Insane people". Though I never really got that feeling either. With the vast jungles that ubisoft created, I somehow felt they were lacking in randomness. Sure they were random, you get attacked by wildlife all of a sudden, you see the pirates suddenly in your way start firing at you, that's all well and good, keeps you on your toes for the moment. But hey, does anybody remember Red Dead Redemption? The people you encountered were downright crazy, firing at you, coming after you. Here; I just felt that the AI was pretty dumb. "Hey! What the! And then they run for cover .

Also, the side quests were a blot on the game. The NPC's in these quests were badly modelled, their actions not in sync with what they were saying, making you think If they could create such beautiful visuals and cutscenes, why do a half-assed job with the quests. And speaking of the quests, they were awfully boring and a waste of time. Kid stuff, "Go find this", "Go find that". Just didn't enjoy them.

The co-op was fun, spent about 6 hours completeing them. Good intense action, and on the harder difficulties, you're really required to keep a track of your ammo, co-ordinate with you team-mates, and plan ahead. The story was It was a really good idea for a story, with a stupid ending. Good entertainment though and in the end, that's what matters.

All in all, the game was great, no second thoughts on that. Great action, great moments, and some spectacular missions. I just somehow felt it could've been made better by adding more content, more depth and a bit more insanity to the whole mix.
Seems like a mess maybe, having these mixed opinions about it, but that's really how I felt after the whole thing.

Thanks for reading. Do share your thoughts

Was a good game for what it was, was expecting more. It's a shame about Uplay being so awful.

Yeah, Uplay isn't good. I personally find it unnecessary, especially if you have it on PC/Steam.

Yeah, I got it in a sale. Opened Uplay and I don't think it has connected once since I've used it. Which is unfortunate because I wanted to try the multiplayer

Ahh, they're both good games (I'm actually playing through FC2 again at the moment) - each has some very strong points and equally some frustrations.

Thedip, I'd certainly try to get your Uplay working. You say you got it cheap - if it was second-hand maybe the online code had already been used - MP co-op was a lot of fun.

I liked the open world aspect and the ability to climb those big hills to see what you could see. My main annoyance was the speed of the day/night cycle - FC2 had that a lot better for me.

Yeah, but back to the OP - a well worthwhile game, really very immersive if you don't bother using the iron sight ability to highlight enemies.
