I like their earlier stuff, but somewhere around 1995, Michael Stipe's been mailing in the lyrics and providing the intensity of factory worker punching a time clock.

This happened when he lost his religion.

It's the end of the band as we know it and I feel fine.

I wasn't even aware they were still together.

Freed from his band members, Michael Stipe can fulfill his dream of being World Leader Pretend, although Driver Eight can take a break, and Sidewinder Sleeps Tonight. Perhaps I am being Low about all this, and should Stand in the place that you are, while I take another trip Around the Sun so I can find out How the West was Won and Where It Got Us.

Seriously, you're a Monster.

Andy did you hear about this one? The unbreakable band broke up. Sad day, as REM's group dynamic was one of those unusual ones that seemed like it could survive anything.

Yeah, one of Athens, Georgia's bands has broken up. It is the end of the world and I feel fine!... Still sad though. :( --- Randy

I lost all respect for them when they appeared on Sesame Street.

That's like half of Hollywood. It's called public service and giving back and other nice-nice things.

You'll see when you have a kid.

Dissing on Sesame Street... not cool.

A lot of the artists who appeared on early Sesame Street episodes were New Yorkers in the local jazz/indie/folk/rock scene as well as international artists... they've had a huge variety of talents on, Billy Joel, Paul Simon, James Taylor (the guitar riff for "Jellyman Kelly" is a particular favorite... simple, quirky, catchy and fun to play), Johnny Cash... a number of noted opera singers, jazz musicians and instrumentalists, as well as lesser known folk singers... oh... like Buffy Sainte Marie?

The breadth, depth and variety of the musical talent that has appeared on Sesame Street over the years is far above and beyond your typical three-chords-and-a-chorus hacks... Just because they also have pop singers on from time to time doesn't change that fact.

I grew up on 70's and 80's Sesame Street, and some of the instrumental riffs and older songs were downright amazing. It's cool to see people lend their talents (for free) and do such excellent work for something so simple as a children's TV show...

I'm not saying the show is bad it was just the way they performed I didn't like. I give props to them for trying though.
