Yeah, I never intentionally hit any guy, but its hard as hell to hold the racing line, and not hit someone, when everyone behind or in front is throwing their cars into the corners without a plan.
The 'secret' at Daytona is to let the guys past! I know it sounds stupid, but that's it! Let him past, then hang onto his back bumper and draft him until the next corner, choose your spot, and take it. Honestly, I race my race, and don't worry about who is in front, behind or overtaking, its the best way to be.
There are other advanced drafting techniques too, like (there may be an official term for this, but I call it...) 'Leap Frog drafting'.
This technique requires teamwork with another driver. I have only managed to do this once or twice, but it is a killer move to make, and can pull in even the most distant driver! For this to work you let some guy draft you. he flies past, and you use his slipstream to initiate an overtake manoeuvre. He will then latch onto the back of you, and so it starts again. You will be surprised how much distance and speed you will do. Like I said, this requires teamwork, and that's something that is in short supply when you race online.
