Hi everyone
I have only recently started to try racing online.whenever I enter a lobby and there is a pp limit and I have to use the engine limiter to get my pp within regulations everyone always out accelerates me by loads on the straights and I have no chance of catching anyone. Why is this ?

Hi everyone

What is the PP limit? Which cars are they using and which are you using?

You don't always have to use power limiter. Ballast the car down and you should be better down the straights, plus reduce your aerodynamics. But yes, it depends on the car a lot.

Some people have a better idea than others on what cars to use under pp restrictions. I believe pp only seems to take into account hp, weight and aerodynamics.
If its a race car or has a wing take off all aero (not recommended for formula cars) and put ballast on until you hit the pp limit, if you cant reach it load say 100kg on and then turn to the limiter. Always position your ballast away from centre in the opposite direction to where the engine sits in the car to improve weight distribution. If you have had to add ballast and use the limiter it may be wise to bring your transmission down a few notches too.
I personally use FR configured cars when possible then AWD then FR in a pp race unless its quite low.
The above advice works for me and is all of course IMO.

I find when using the power limiter more than say -10%, it tends to move the peak torque too far to the left on most cars, so the torque ends up peaking at around half revs and I'm using the 75-95% of rev's as my shifting range because that's where the hp is. Ideally you want the torque and hp peaks as close as possible to each other for maximum acceleration.

I know the limitations of my cars and set them up to race within certain pp ranges. I wouldn't take my Italia down to 525 pp for example because the power limiter would be too low. I have a bunch of cars set up to be ideal at 500 pp, another bunch at 550 pp, 600pp, 450pp on SS tires...etc. Takes time but it makes your racing evenings more enjoyable because all your cars will be competitive no matter the range of pp you are racing in.

It takes into account torque as well. Put your stats at identical numbers, but with different turbos and check the difference.

Yes you are right, I should have typed 'engine output' rather than HP.

Silly silly boy bret arent you ;)

If you want to use a machine which can equally match with others in performance within the restriction of performance points, then you're counseled to curtail the horsepower directly in the setting menu first. And add some ballasts and remove some aero parts to reduce aerodynamics so that it lets the points down to a certain extent, helping you be qualified to enter with your desirable car you genuinely hope you want to drive.

It hinges on up to what pp it is allowed for entry(it's more clever decision to switch to another one the limitation being too low with others being stuck with race cars) and which type of car everyone is using in the lobby.

Thanks to everyone for your most informative answers.I now have a clearer understanding of what's happening.

Also may i add how a car handles can matter a lot more than how are cars pulls on the straights. For example if i have a DTM touring car at 600pp and a dodge viper ACR at 600pp which car will be faster. Thats also a big factor in chosing your car. Also the right car for the right track is a big factor. So for example using them same cars on daytona its a different story :) just a matter of choice really and de tuning the right things :)

My tendency is to remove parts to get within 5% of the pp limit and then the power limiter from there. That keeps the torque peak as close to the HP peack as possible. I rarely find that taking off downforce has a benefit in hp equal to the benefit provided by the downforce. In other words, taking 10 off the rear downforce allows you to gain say 15 hp to get the same pp but costs you in every corner, with little gain in acceleration.

Ill usually reduce my aerodynamics and only then will I reduce the engine power. The car is harder to control but if you're good enough, you will outrun the other guys who have higher downforce.

Some cars work better than others in certain PP restricted races.

Try the NSX or the BMW GTR to fit different PP races, ther are normally very good.
