hi,
i'm a newb so i thought i would like to compare some of my findings to see as to where i rank in terms of times. i mean, i've been playing for a while, but i've seen lots of technical stuff on the board so i know that there are people a LOT more advanced than me.
i recently took a stock Ruf RGT from Class A (won the car in class A), so it is assured to be 100% stock. took off traction control and stability control, and i got a 4:48.212. is this good for a stock Ruf, or are people doing much better? i thought i got the lines pretty much down, except for the long sweeping curves before the hills, i think those i slowed down a bit because of understeer by taking the inside track too soon...
also, another thing about me as a newb: my new thing is to do races in one lane, as in Cote de Azure and Tokyo R246 and stuff. that is, no touching the other lane at all or going into it. haha...kinda fun as it gives a great sensation of speed being in a more compact space and really fine-hones my skills i think. it accentuates handling characteristics since everything happens so fast and you are really involved in it, everything is sensitive and everything matters. call me dumb but it's fun for me, after playing GT3 for years i found something new to it! also makes the game feel more realisitc
lastly, i found that my "special" down-shifting technique really helps drifting and corner entry. it's a simultaneous combination of turn, downshift, gas, and e-brake. it's hard to explain all this in words because a right touch is involved so that the rpm's don't go limp...anyway, this particularly helps on turns such as Laguna Seca, turn 4 after the starting line i believe (one after semi-long straight, goes uphill). really helps with drifiting as well, and is really really helpful and a lot more fun i think. it is super effective on intitiating drifts on long sweepers, and from my experience, is the best method i encountered to holding long drifts in a smooth line. i can spin tires and opposite lock very cool with this, and it breaks traction in the rear so i can often downshift to a lower gear at speeds that are normally too high for the ratio. this is good for the corner entry and even sometimes the exit for me because it allows me to have better throttle response as well as stay in the sweeter parts of high rpms which help the handling characteristics.
great forum btw. hope to learn alot!
