My current considerations for a Cita di Aria tuning base car, keeping it less than or around 300 horsepower are as follows:

1. Subaru Impreza WRX STi Version VI Coupe Type-R ('99)
2. ASL Garaiya ('02)
3. Lancer Evolution VIII MR GSR ('04)
4. Lancer Evolution VIII GSR ('03)
5. Honda S2000 ('03)

Now I say 300 because I would like to compete in GT300 class races which seems pretty reasonable on a course like this, and despite being told that the S2000 is severely lacking in the uphill catagory, I still have to go with that as my 5th choice at least.

Simply because of the 50/50 weight distribution, and the fact that the motor only generates some 240, which give a little room for expansion and torque band tuning. I feel that with some weight reducing modifications and a bit more power, this thing should be able to handle the sharp corners on the downhill, but still be able to make it up the uphill at the end.

I would still rather go with the two-door WRX, the super light midship Garaiya, or even the Evo 8 armed with the Super AYC system. But I dunno. I'm sorta biased towards these Japanese cars and haven't looked into the Euro cars and certainly don't plan on looking into the American ones.

Can I get a little constructive criticism?

Good choices, but i think you need a nimbler car for that track, what about a nice Lancia Delta HF Integrale?

Yeah go compact.... Delta HF, A3 3.2Q, R32,... But those are not fast enough I guess...? :s

i think that the Lancer Evolution VIII MR GSR ('04) has the best torque and handling

Lotus Elise can be tuned up to around 300bhp, and weighs half as much as most cars.
To quote Colin Chapman : "To increase performance, just add lightness" (or something like that).

if stock only then WRX STI Spec C 04

that thing is ALOT faster then a stock GC8 impreza.... even alot faster then the all mighty 22B

if any car under 300HP
Amuse S2000 R1 is one of the best candidate for one of the fastest on that track

I;d go the S2000. All the rest are chronic understeers in tight corners so definetly the S2000.

an elise with 200 bhp could probably keep up with those at 300bhp.

or a car in a similar vain.

the caterham will probably destroy all these cars, with its less than 500kg weight, small size and go kart handling.

judging from my prologue exp. i´d say lotus elise or honda S2000.

Yeah, the Delta Integrale was recommended by the same person that suggested against the S2000, but I haven't been able to find any solid informantion on the one that is in GT4. And even so, if I was going to go with a 4WD car, I would rather be in a later model Evo with the Super AYC system.

I just like the 1999 Impreza STi-4 Type-R because stock, it weighs only 1260kg, but then again, the only reason it is first on my list is because I'm biased towards the WRX.

Recently, especially after seeing Best Motoring Vol. 7 (The Evo Strikes Back), my thoughts have started to change about the Evolution series. The only thing that turns me off about the Evo VIII MR is the fact that it weighs almost 1400kg which is far too heavy for a track like that.

But I dunno.

Have any of you looked into the ASL Garaiya?

A super light MR designed by the kings of MR tuning, Autobacs Racing Team Aguri*.

I would really like to try that one out.

I was also thinking Elise.

I was also thinking of the 2004 WRX spec-C but I couldn't find any info on it (weight.. torque.. etc..)

*(credits to seito4counter for the expanded form of ARTA).

AFIAK, the 2004 Spec-C is much less prone to understeer than previous WRX's. It's weight is under 1400kg, too, and torque is right around the level of the Evo MR. Don't go near the Audi A3 or the R32... both are far from compact, weighing more than either the Evo or Impreza. Plus, they're a bit softer than those two.

I'd be leaning towards an Elise 111R with a wing. As close as you'll get to an MK2 Exige. If you want more torque than the little Toyota four-pot, though, you could go for the Elise's cousin, the VX220/Speedster Turbo. The Garaiya is probably good, but I've never driven it in-game because I'm stuck over here. Someone mentioned the Amuse S2000 R1, that would be the ideal S2000, I'd think. The Hommell would be a different approach, too. A better bet than the S2000 would be any of the final FD RX-7's, though. Or even maybe a Clio V6...

How about going oldschool? A 2002 Turbo would be pretty nice.

edit: nevermind, just noticed "domestic"

How about an NSX-R? You couldn't tune the engine too much, though...

The Evo MR GSR (tuned for weight and acceleration) and the 2002 S2k (also tuned for weight and uphill torque) are my prime considerations right now.

Does GT4 include brake fade/heating up?

More importantly, does it include Network mode.

The caterham is probably the best bet handleing wise. I would probably go with an s2000 though. A well tuned miata can run with the best.

Everytime I think about Citta di Aria and fast cars, I usually have the Fina McLaren F1 GTR racing on those streets. The driver made very few errors and just went through it all like a thief in the night. And I agree with SS Ares. I'm not a Lancia fan, much less the Lancia Delta, but the handling is wonderful. Plus you get that 4WD, so you can drive it to the edge as long and hard as you want with a very minimal chance of a spinout.

To end this, one of the biggest surprises in GT4 is the inclusion of Caterham. I know I read about this machine and all, but looks can be deceiving. I heard this thing could smoke the Ferrari Enzo in acceleration and has a b*tchin' top speed. It's a fast car no matter how you look at it.

As an off-topic deal, I've had some trouble pronouncing this car make. At first, I pronounced it like cat-er-ham. Then prnounced it like cat-er-em. After watching "Fifth Gear" once, found out its actual pronounciation was more like cat-rum. The main point? Awesome car maker.

The domestic version Delta they give you in this game weighs like 1300kg and is almost 14 years old.

And for the record, I probably wouldn't race against a Caterham Fireblade because it's in a class all it's own, and unless I was in an Evo or WRX (or on a real circuit), I would probably avoid the AE86 like the plague.

I wouldn't know the first thing about Miatas though, as I'm not a huge Mazda fan.

a miata would be good, i agree on the s2k - would make a decent choice... keep the car small and light, as you're gunna have 300hp no matter which car you choose - so get the advantage in weight and size..

Nearly there, I've always known it more like 'Kater-um'...

An old boss of mine had an original 1974 Lotus 7, the car the Caterham is based on. It was dark blue and had a Renault 1647cc engine. With the roof on, and it usually was when I was given a lift home, it was a bugger to get into, really acute entry angle, however, your arse felt it was only an inch off the ground, and even with a 'puny' 1647cc engine, it went like a pocket rocket.

Slipping back on topic, a 300hp Caterham would be 'untouchable' in a 300hp class race.

Isn't the Vauxhall/Opel VX220 Turbo in GT4... that car has torque and power to weight to beat some seriously high powered cars!

Small and nimble too...

I've never gotten anything from an Elise but disappointment in GT3, haven't driven one in GT4 but unless it can be tuned all the way to the 300hp limit I doubt it would be any good.

When I get my 2 year old TV fixed (it died the day I got GT4) I will get the specs for the WRX for you. However I remember that I was very careful in my car selection and the Spec C was superior in weight and power to every other normal WRX (ie not including rally versions). There weren't many EVOs to choose from and I don't recall any standouts.

hello! i read about the Lancia delta Evo in an magazine once then it's been my favorite choice of car. At the time when the delta drove rally, they fitted it rally stuff in the road version just to make sure they could use it in thier rally version's.
Tuned it upp a little and off you go!

my choice again, would be the HF integrale Evo, after all its Italian.....

.

the elise should be faster then any of the other cars mentioned around a lap with only 2/3 rds of their power let alone at full whack.

if this is incorrect then the game is bugged.

a motorsport elise fully tuned at trial mountain in GT3 could beat a fully tuned NSX

If you want to go JDM the Toyota MRS is always there or the Tommy Kaira ZZS. Light, nimble and still fast.

My priorities have gradually shifted to these, more or less:

1. Lancer Evolution VIII MR GSR ('04)
2. ASL Garaiya ('02)
3. Subaru Impreza WRX STi Version VI Coupe Type-R ('99)

Then whatever lightweight MR/FR/AWD or even FF that I find capable, excluding the Fireblade, Lotus Europa (sorry, I hate this thing with a passion), 8-6..

WRX STi Spec C '04
