What's the fastest online race time (NOT single lap, which is pretty meaningless) you've run or seen on Suzuka 600PP (S2), & what car?

Last night I ran a 7.02.339 in a tuned Clio, racing (& drafting) back & forth with DarthDrift (also in a Clio), which (I think) is the fastest time I've run to date. Generally, my winning times seem to be around 7.05 - 7.10 - if there are no "incidents".

Me and Cudadude made a 7'01.xxx in our R8's and I think both of us waited for the other in one time or another. Fun race, maybe the online boost—rubber band effect was off somehow that afternoon.

Well, I noticed a very important factor for race time : numbers of cars on the race.

Sure it comes with boost, but you can easely beat a race time with only 7 or 8 cars in the race rather than 12 cars.

With 12 cars in the race, my best time was 7'12.XXX (with around 3 sec lost on lap 2). With 8 cars, around 7'06.XXX. Both in Lancer IX tuned, clean race in the lead from start to finish line and pack around 2/3 sec behind and no slow cars on the track. I'm tuning and learning Ferrari F430 to improve theses times as I don't think Lancer can reach much better times (maybe 5sec for a perfect from my capacity).

I think the most important is to have most of the drivers with rather same level. The more the race is tight, the better time laps are. In my opinion, you can have even better time with 3/4 cars within the same second.

So, in my opinion, not so valuable to compare race times without compare race conditions.

Anyway, Biggles and OrangeR race times are very good and I aim this kind of time with the F430.

I got a 6: 56 on suzuka PP600.

Only joking, you've got to be crazy i don't know my best score but its no where near 7:15

i raced last night cant remember how many was in race not many and me and the second finished clocked 6:58,s

I think you are right on! I have noticed the same, in fact this lap times were obtained with 3 or 4 cars in the race. As you mentioned, the less cars and with similar pace improve your lap times. I haven't figured out how this works, which is a pain, because you can never trust your lap times, only your overall position in the race. If you desperately try to match your best lap times you'll only end overdriving the car. :scared:

I'm pretty sure that the boost/handicap scales based on the distance between the lead car and the second place car, as well as the distance between the lead car and the last place car. Larger fields will naturally produce a wider gap from first to last, so the handicap is larger.

If true, the best times would be produced by a very tight race between a small number of cars at the front. This is consistent with my observations.

7:01 in an R8

I agree with others that the times are meaningless because of the boost nonsense, but I did manage a 6:59.5 with a few fast guys in the race including you Angelx, TakataDome and others.

Slightly off topic, but I wonder if all you guys running the R8 couldn't run a little faster if you chose a car with a slightly higher top end. Everyone knows about the Clio blah blah blah, but I noticed a mass exodus to the AWD with the tire restrictions. The Clio is harder to drive but I think (whatever that's worth) it's faster over 3 laps versus the R8 because of the top end. I feel frustrated for you guys when you get just as good (or better) an exit as me out of Spoon or the chicane but you don't have enough umph to use the draft, whereas if I'm behind and get a good exit, I just sail by you.

Ah, yes, and sorry to not mention you SimcoAce, you and I had some good dicing together in identical cars!!!

I think people are running the R8 in the NTSC version primarily because of the upcoming race event on Tuesday. Plus, it's a dream to drive and reasonably competitive. However, I'd agree that the 430 and Clio both perform better in a race environment because of their higher top end.

Ahhh, thanks Vaxen. I need to pay attention to that event section. By the way, good racing with you too! (sorry for off-topic post)

The 7.02.339 was with 4 or 5 cars only & a more or less uninterrupted run, with GarthDrift & myself neck-&-neck pretty much the whole way, "trading drafting" on the straights. I wouldn't imagine there was any "rubber-band effect" at all in that time, but who knows what is going on with the GT5P online "pacing" (there were a couple of the cars way behind, which could have "slowed" our times down)?

I'm thinking that's probably the fastest I've run it (I haven't checked systematically), because there wasn't any messing around being blocked behind slower cars, but I can imagine that it would be possible to run quicker under absolutely ideal circumstances & if you actually set out to.

In my experience the R8s are fast: much faster accelerating from standing start, fast through the chicane & some of the other corners, but slower top end than the Clio. I find this a bit odd: wouldn't it be logical for the smaller, lighter Clio to have better acceleration & the more powerful R8 better top end?

Of course, the EVOs & STIs are also fast with great all-round handling & speed - definitely easier (& IMO less fun) to drive.

I think the F430 is also a contender & also the NSX. Any other favourites?

had some 7:00's tonight, and a 6:59.9--. never paid attention till tonight, but when there was no real compitition out there i'd shoot for time.

Sound like excellent times. What cars?

Is it possible to run that fast if you're being held back by the "runner band" of cars way further back?

OK, I just was just online with GTP_WonderWiley when he ran a 6.55'865 in a F430 (I came in 2nd with a 6.58'962.) There was a little messing around on the way, so the times could have been faster. Honestly, the race didn't feel that much faster, in spite of being almost 4 secs faster than my previous "best". Makes me suspect there's more going on than meets the eye...

Oops - just posted this a few seconds after WonderWilley (is it WonderWilley or WonderWiley? - important difference!).

As I pointed out your time was quite a bit faster than mine!

Nice driving Wonder - first time I haven't been able to catch an F430, & I've raced a few! The F430 seems to be the only car I've come across that can match the Clio's 5th & 6th gear speed (in the right hands!).

I screwed up when I switched to my new gtp username and forgot to use caps, the ps network would not let me change it so I had to get rid of an L so now its GTP_wonderwiley, but they both are me
