Hello All

Please let me know if this is the wrong place for this question.

My original 80GB PS3 just stopped reading my game disks. :ouch: Everything else still works, but no more disks. I would just like to know what the best option is:

1. Buy new Blue Ray drive and replace? :yuck:

2. Transfer my game save and other data to a new PS3?

3. Fix the Blue Ray disk drive based on YouTube stuff I’ve seen? :nervous:

If I transfer the data, can I maintain my PSN name, and my GT5 and Battlefield links that used my PSN name? This really sucks and any advice would be welcome.

Thanks

I'd get a new PS3, the new ones for $250 and 320gb or find a used one for cheaper.

When you do the data transfer between the two, the console switches EVERYTHING over to the other console, formats the original console if you chose to. Everything includes all installed data, save files, and such.

What it doesn't do is transfer preferences you have set and your PSN login. So if you've forgotten your password, I'd advise resetting your password before doing the transfer. Hope this helps.

EDIT: You do keep your PSN name, as it isn't tied to a specific console. If you want to keep your trophies you'll have to synchro them with the Sony servers as they aren't transferred either.

Thank you for the quick reply. I'll go get a slim and do the "xfer" ASAP.👍

Hope instructions are in the owners manual, or in the menu.

You rock Juiposa, you made my day....
