Well i've had my DFGT for a few years now (easily out of warranty i'd say, bought it for GT5: Prologue then didn't like the handling so it lay dormant until GT5) and have had a fairly decent run out of it.

But in the past few months its sort of developed a few problems, and i'm almost positive it was before we got our kitten who happens to like chewing cables... (had to use electrical tape to tape over quite a few bite marks she made in them).

When the wheel does its wee calibration it starts off going all the way to the right, then all the way to the left as normal, but then after it hits the limit on the left turn it just stops and doesn't turn itself back to the straight ahead position.

OR It does go back to straight ahead, but the wheel is cocked 15 degrees or more to one side (usually the left). Which means i have to drive like that too...

But even more recently its been misaligning itself during countersteer maneuvers... So i start the race with it pointing straight ahead, then get into a big slide at some stage during the race and simply because of the speed i'm turning the wheel back and forth it seems to maybe jump a few cogs and end up on a 15 degree angle or more.
In fact, last night it got so bad that the bloody wheel was upside down when the in game wheels were pointing straight! So i tried driving like that for a few seconds and then got annoyed and unplugged the wheel and removed it from the table apon which its been attached to since GT5 came out.

Logitec will probably charge an arm and a leg to fix it and since i have to save for my wedding it looks like i'm back to the SixAxis to play GT5. :(

When my DFGT calibrates, it never comes back to the very middle. (only happens with GT5) It is always 10-15 degrees out of position.
But it works properly.

No-one else heard of this problem?

I e-mailed Logitech a few days ago but no reply yet...

My MOMO black does this too, after hard right turns it will be off to the right a bit from center. You have to turn to the left all the way and then it will straighten out again. I think it's just because the MOMO and DFGT are low end wheels and just can't take the abuse the higher end wheels can. Time to upgrade:tup:

Just got this e-mail reply:

Dear Andrew,

Thank you for contacting the Logitech Customer Care Team.

As I understand, you're having an issue with your Driving Force GT as the sterring wheel is not responding properly.

I apologize for the inconvenience this device may have caused you, and it will be my pleasure to get your problem resolved.

Based on your email, you had the device for a couple of years now and would be out of warranty by now.
Unfortunately, we do not have a repair center to where we can direct you.

FAIL.

I might take it to bits then and see if i notice anything worn out.

It could be your kitty biting the wires has caused a fault in the wiring. Why not take off the tape and pull some of the wiring apart and see if there are any wires that got bitten into. I almost ruined mine the day I got it when I accidentally sliced into the cable and cut a wire. A little solder and tape and its better.

I don't think you'll notice any worn parts inside that would cause that issue. There is a sensor on the dfgt that has a cog and spring damper that tells the wheel what angle its sitting at. If the spring is totally worn maybe that could be it but if the sensor is bad I have no idea how you would replace it.

Maybe opening it up and giving it a good clean out is in order. It sounds like that sensor is either dirty or is failing.
